A cute little girl named "Meline"

#61

Hey Pap87 !

Try using a Gravity and a Damp Force. The “gravity” will of course place your hair back down, and the “damp” will slow down the velocity of each hair.
But if you really want the hair not to move then use the “Static” option on you hairSystem node.

I hope that helps! :stuck_out_tongue:
You you have a screenhots of what the hair looks like whenb it’s messy like you said, it would help me diagnose the issue

Hi, I figured screenshots would be inaccurate (because there are so many tubes and they don’t display properly in the viewport) so I made some renders.

The first one is the hair in the first frame the way I want it and the second picture is the hair when the entire body is rotated 180 degrees.

Oh and it’s zoomed out a lot from the first pic. Sorry for the dark background.

I couldn’t find any “static” option anywhere though.
In the “forces” section I’ve put random up to 100 to frizz it up just a bit. There’s also some noise I put from the “displacement” section. I’ve turned turbulence “off” as well.
The hair strokes are just parented to the head bone, the control curves are in groups parented to the head bone also, and even just rotating that bone back and forth makes the hair go funny.

If you need more info I’m more than eager to put it in as well.
Thanks

Yep, your hair have really gone crazy :o)
Ok, so the “Static” Option is located on your “hairSystem” Node, under the “Simulation method” menu. (by default it’s set to “All Follicles”)

Also, I see that your hair are touching each others as they are tangled.
This can be very delicate to setup cause there’s a lots of collisions. So you can try to set the SelfCollide “Repulsion” number as low as possible (but not toooo low), the SelfCollide “Static Cling” quite high, and increase the “Collide Over Sample” number.
Anyway, if you set your hairSystem to static, it won’t matter.

Hope that helps! Let me know!

Thanks! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi folks! :stuck_out_tongue:

We’ve been working a little more on “Meline”.
We are trying to assemble the Head (with all the hair etc with the rest of the body :o)

Here is what we have so far.

What do you think? She might be looking a little bit flat ; i meant no volume, no real shape… (exept the hair which are still the same for the moment :o)

What do you guys think? I’d love to hear what you guy feel about that last picture :o)

Thanks! :o)

hi man, really cute little girl  great work so far.

I have to say that 2 years ago i saw your short film Running Away and i really dig it! this short film is so great, just like a awesome cinematic. the only minor things is the character voice but anyway i had a really good time seeing it .

#67

Awesome work, Sebastien!

#68

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. Actually I made the mistake and didn’t see that you were using Maya Hair, which I am not. That’s why I don’t have all these settings you are telling me about. Regardless I got around my problem after some headaches.

BTW, the stuff on your site is awesome.

Hey!! so cool you liked Running Away! I had so much time making on this short film.
If you want more informations, screenshots, behind the scenes, animatic etc), you can go to www.awayproject.fr.st ! :stuck_out_tongue:
I try to put voice on the characters, but as’m not a sound designer or any Sound-related thing, it felt really bad
… so anyway!, I’m glad you find her cute

Thanks!!

Ahaha  I though for a sec that this could have been a problem (us not using the same Hair Plugin)… I’d love to see what it’s like right now :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks for the comment!

I love this WIP!

You gave her an efficient graphic power on her eyes and lips.
Also skin shading hair and old photographic tough is well done!
=> makes her alive

Just wondering if her cotton Tshirt need to be so dirty?
=> makes her like a doll

Maybe she’s living a sad story…

#71

Actually it just looks the way you see it in the pic I posted above. What you see there is the back side of the head, the hair tied up in a bun, specifically chose that hairstyle so i would not have to worry about animating the hair.
Besides, I wouldn’t want to spoil your thread anymore than I have by posting my work in it. (unless you really badly want to see it.)

Glad you love this WIP Rollmops! We’re having a lot of fun trying to make her! :o)

You should have seen the socks we first test-renders : They were digustingly durty :scream:
anyway, The Girl will probably play in a Barn, with dirt but more with dust.
Think it’s too dirty anyway?

:: pap87 ::
Don’t you have a thread or a website where we can peek at what you’re doing? You teased me! :stuck_out_tongue:

She turned out pretty cute! I like the way you have made the hair, and clothing is
great too! It would be fun to see when you give her some facial expression!
Can’t wait to see more on this!

#74

Thanks! :o)
We are really looking forward in making facial expressions on her
It should be fun :o)

This is fantastic Sebastien! Very cute and just the right mix of realistic and cartoony, really dig the style.

Curious if you could discuss the lighting abit(HDRI, light types, fg? etc)? its got a very nice glow and overall feel to it.

thanks, keeping an eye on this thread

#76

hey nsb !

Thanks for the kind comments :stuck_out_tongue:
I’ll try to write a post about how I lite the test scene, and how the shader were setup as soon as I have a little time.

Cheers! :o)

Hi Folks! :stuck_out_tongue:

Just a little update ! There a 360 of the girl over here! :o)
PLAY VIDEO (1.2mo)

Meanwhile, this week, I started a first-draft rigging. We would like to ask some animators that we know if they would like to animate her, so they need to be confortable with it!
That’s gonna be fuuuun!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s it for today!

#78

Nope! still alive! :stuck_out_tongue:

We are still working on Meline but since we are doing the rigging & skinning, there isn’t really much to show. We almost have a final version (shown below).
So here is a quick “behind the scene” stuff :o)

Meantime of course we are thinking of the details of the story, where the action is going to take place, etc :stuck_out_tongue:

More on a next post

Have a niiiiice weekend ! :scream:

this character to me looks like a “toy doll” a good “toy doll” but still an inanimate object and not real…
not sure whats wrong… but its missing something.

your work is so impressive…the progress is great too, especially outside of your 9-5 job.

your partner and yourself are doing so good. keep it up so i can keep on being envious.
Hah!
