The goal was to recreate the ulysse31 cartoon in modern style ( clone wars in this case )
and have fun to do it !:)
This cartoon was very special, because transposing a Greek mythology in a cartoon being held in in science fiction's futur!! ( I've lurn a lot of mythology with this cartoon )
  The result was just amazing and fairy-like ! ( And I don't forget the music !! )
I quickly realized that the character design was very modern for the 80'
fortunately, I fell on the fabulous artwork of Aleski Briclot !!

I spend roughly 80-90 hours on this including reasearch.

One of my favorite shows back when I was a kid. I didn’t realize that this was an 80’s cartoon till I joined this contest. This show never had a come back unfortunately. The story was incomplete so I thought, how would this look like in 3D and so here’s the result.

My brother suggested to me to join the challenge and I learned a lot from this this on how to model more properly and it was really fun.

NOTE: I had to break this up into more than one reply due to the amount of images I posted.

ARTIST NAME:
Cindy Groves

DESCRIPTION:

“This is the Evergreen Forest… Quiet, peaceful, serene. That is, until Bert Raccoon wakes up…”

I chose to model Bert Raccoon from the Canadian 1980s cartoon “The Raccoons”. In the show’s opening sequence, Bert is riding his flying bike over the Evergreen Forest.

I used Lightwave 9.6 to model the base meshes for Bert and his bike, the ground plane, and the pine tree. I used ZBrush 3.1 to sculpt Bert, the ground plane, and the pine tree, and paint textures and generate normal and displacement maps. Genetica Pro 3 was used to make the grass texture on the ground. Photoshop CS was used to clean up the color maps that I generated in ZBrush.

Then, I assembled and rendered the scene in Lightwave Layout. The sky was generated using Lightwave’s Skytracer 2, and I used final gathering GI with ambient occlusion.

WIRES:

WIP THREAD: Fat Skeletor

SOFTWARE USED: Maya, Mudbox, Photoshop

DESCRIPTION: This is a slightly different version of Skeletor… not as ripped as in the series.
Didn´t really wanna do ONE MORE skeletor since there already are a few in play, but then i thought “why not make him the opposite of the others” =P

Would have loved to texture him but, I have to go away to grandpa´s funeral today… :frowning:
But i´ll start with the textures as fast as i get home (16/4) =P

I spent roughly 60 hours on this including research.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU!! It has been super fun to take part of this challenge and get to know so many of you guys! My only regret is that i had so little time to post crits and comments

All the best! /Jonas =)

Description:
I wanted to make a 3D version of Voltron for quite some time and this challenge brought the enthusiasm and opportunity for me to go ahead and participate. Just like the Mazinger Z I made a while back, I wanted to be as faithful as possible while making sure that mechanically it would work. That prooved to be the real challenge here since the cartoon took many liberties in that department; as a result I had to use toys reference, old and new, in order to come up with a Voltron that could be posed and ultimately animated. The end result is a Voltron mix from the cartoon and different action figures. I was unable to texture it for this challenge but I’m determined to finish this image. Thanks to everyone that commented and helped me throughout the challenege, you know who you’ll are, cheers!

My goal was to create Ace McCloud from the 80’s cartoon Centurions. I tried to stay as faithful to the original concept as possible, but I made a couple of changes such as his neck being protected and some additional detailing of how all of these weapons are connected to the power suit. I did not keep strict time of my hours, but it took about a month and half to complete working for a few hours each night and longer on weekends.

Where to start, classic UK 80’s cartoon, if you’re from the 70’s growing up during the 80’s then you will know of this cartoon. Couldn’t resist the challenge of transferring an iconic 2D cartoon and translating it into 3D. I may now even do a few stories, if I get the other characters done! I doubt it will happen as it’s been a fun and rewarding challenge

I have always wanted to create a 3D model of the Argo/Yamato, but because of a lack of time due to work and family life I just never got around to it. Until now

My objective was to capture the look of the original first and second season Argo. Good reference materials were scarce, and they vary so much that a source-of-truth is very hard to find. A couple of scans from the instruction sheet of the plastic model of the Yamato/Argo has served as my main reference on this project, supplemented by various other more stylized sources.

I spent about 80 hours on this including research, and I haven’t enjoyed a modeling project this much in years. I have also learned a lot about lighting, texture mapping, and spline modeling. I look forward to the next challenge. More shots of the model can be seen in my WIP thread.

Description:

Nemesis Enforcer is a character from the original G.I. J.O.E. animated movie from 1987. He was the winged goon from Cobra-La and has since appeared in comic book and toy form.

I modeled him taking elements based on the movie, comic book, and newer toy designs.

The base mesh was modeled in Maya and the sculpting, posing and rendering were done with Zbrush. Basic colours were added to modified matcaps for the final image.

Thanks!

DESCRIPTION:
Basically this is my interpretation of the classic Zentraedi battlepod, while I had a ton of reference (including the toy) all the refs were slightly different so I tried to combine them to make it as functional as possible. Ironically I happened to be making this model for a model creation class here at Full Sail without even knowing about the challenge so all in all I was on an even tighter deadline so between this model, the other 2 that I was trying to get together in time for this and keeping up with stuff at school I managed to squeeze in roughly 30ish hours on this one, unfortunately the other 2 I was working on were too much and didn’t get finished in time (if anyone is interested here are the links VF-1Valkyire (more macross) & Cobra HISS tank . Also please excuse the texturing, I am really bad at it atm, but getting better everyday (thats the plan anyway), and I always welcome any advice or criticism I can get so feel free to msg me with anything you got for me.

Thanks!!

WIP thread: (what there is of it since I was unaware of the challenge till I had finished the model so I didn’t document any of the WIP)
