7.5 (32bit) - IP rendering instant crashes.

#1

Hi guys,

I’ve added a 3gb switch in my boot.ini file, and I’ve added the ‘set MI_FORCE_OLD_BSP=42 25’ - or ‘set MI_FORCE_OLD_BSP=1’ line, and every time I go to just render a low quality preview, it just crashes and I have to restart Softimage.
Simple few primitives scene.

Win XP SP3 (always up-to-date, incl drivers).

sorry to burst your bubble, but the chances to get this working are slim. At least with 32 bit XP/Vista/XSI.
The switches you mention are advised every time this comes up, but only a handful of people actually got it working with this.

AD/SI is/are aware of this issue on 32 bit, so for the time being stick to GI/FG or move it over to a 64 bit environment.
I know…

Totally understand, the computers I’m using here aren’t worth updating to a 64bit OS really.
I just wanted to get my head around the new functions for a potential job but I guess the chances of them even using 7.5 at the moment is slim.

Perhaps they should have made a clearer warning NOT to use IP rendering unless using a 64bit system, I got all excited

well… i’m not saying it doesn’t work at all in 32 bit, there are people claiming to have it humming happily on their pc’s. On the other hand there’s a ton of people out there that just can’t get it to work.
I can only render IP if I switch to a 64bit XP/Vista pc with 64 bit XSI.
