I am not sure if you are saying that Softimage 2010 can’t load scenes from previous version of XSI. It can.

No doubt, just tends to be something broken in old scene opened later version. 2010 I wouldn’t know, that is one bold promise if you mean nothing is broken in previous projects opened in 2010.

Note that this deal requires purchasing subscriptions, which means you can run previous version of XSI should you need to. (in either case, your old SPM licenses are not deleted from your machine, it’s only a EULA restriction)

I can take your word on it, really why bother writing the EULA in first place. They say penguins smell of fish, from where it tacks I wonder.

I believe it will be worth it to be subscription. Note that if you buy a full price 2010 seat, you can still run the older version of XSI, even withou subscription. It’s when you upgrade a seat that there is a limitation.

A network license will run Softimage on either Windows or Linux. So, for example, you can purchase Softimage Advanced Windows, but run on Linux if you choose.

Thanks for confirming that Luc-Eric. But wow… that couldn’t have been a very long promo then.
The VAR in New Zealand (DVT) basically took more than a month to get back to me with their quote. Even after repeated mails and phone calls. I guess in that time the promo expired. They won’t be getting my bussiness that’s for sure.

Luckily XTFX in London came up with a much better quote and I will be buying from them instead.

I got an offer here in Finland to upgrade from 7.01 for 2 183 euros - that’s over 3200 usd
It seems that Autodesk pricing is very, very different depending on where you live.

And yes, you guessed it - I am not upgrading.

I’m afraid I have to agree. However as a member of the European Union nothing would stop you from shopping abroad (as long as you buy from a reseller within the European Union) if that gets you a better quote…

The EULA states:

3.2.9 Use Outside of Territory.
You may not Access the Software or User Documentation outside of the Territory.

But it also states:

1.9 “Territory” means the country in which You acquire the Software, unless (i) You acquire the Software in a member country of the European Union or the European Free Trade Association, in which the case “Territory” means all the countries of the European Union and the European Free Trade Association; or (ii) otherwise specified in the User Documentation.

Personally not affected by this upgrade offer I do want to add that I find the regional differences in the duration of the offer somewhat puzzling. This could have been stated more explicitly while announcing it… :rolleyes:

Indeed. Something I found particularly grating was that mere hours after my NZ reseller told me the promo offer had expired, I received an e-mail from Autodesk happily touting said promo. Poor show Autodesk… really poor show.

Considering you guys over there in Europe have a higher dollar that is cheap. Here in Kanada I have to pay over $4K, and with all the igloos around me, it’s tough

OK. I have some real confusion here.

The terms of the promo read as follows:

What versions of Softimage XSI product are eligible under this Migration Program?
Customers with any version of Softimage XSI products are eligible to migrate to corresponding Autodesk Softimage 2010 products under this program. (my emphasis in bold)

However — my regional rep insists that I cannot upgrade unless I own version 5x or above. I believe my version is a 4x.

Can anyone clear this up for me/ LucEric or anyone else from AD reading this? From the point of AD, it seems like sloppy business. They could have a long-term maintenance customer here. Or not.

I read that is only applied to 7.x. Regardless if you threw out, as I read someone did there keys, there screwed anyhow.

Read again from the link provided by the OP. It clearly states ANY version is eligible.

If you threw out your keys, don’t have a invoice as proof of sale and don’t exist in the moved over Avid>AD Database, well… than you’re stupid and out of luck.

Not to worry. We have the data to validate pre-Autodesk purchases. You will be required to provide some basic information such as company name and original purchase date, but we should be able to look it up.
