3ds max character rigging help

#1

Hi All,

I am trying to rig my character in 3ds max using CAT biped. I was wondering if any could give me an advice regarding the placement etc. Here is a rough set up I have done, I will post a newer one tonight. Havig trouble getting a nice falloff between joints. Been working on the legs most.

Thanks

Hi there, for placement you simply place the joint where u wish it to bend , you often follow the anatomic skeleton chart of joints not roughly but closely at least , plus you may put the bones in most cases INSIDE the volume i.e centered inside the vloume of of trunk or limb for example , for falloff thing it s just something pertains to being aquainted with skin modifiers tools and options

Hi Tarik,

in addition to what Ahmed already said, try to resize your bone objects to roughly the volume of your mesh. For two reasons. First it will give you a rough representation of your character when animating while hiding your mesh. The second cause is more technical as your envelope volumes for skinning will have a better match from the start on, speeding up your workflow.

Have fun

Chris
