3dArtz - AM and EI

#1

Hey 3DArtz! :> How goes the AM EI combo? The last thing you posted was great stuff. Wondering how its going. And I thought Howard and some other fine folk were working on some kind of camera matching plug in of some sort?
Thanks!!

Hey Koons69, what’s up? Thanks for asking…
The technique to get renders to match up from AM to EI work consistantly which is great in my opinion.
But there is a problem which is out of my hands… I’m not 100% sure about who is to blame for this(hash?) and maybe some one who is reading this can chime in and give me some more info on this but…
there is a prolblem with Hash’s camera lense. It does not truely represent any lense that you can achieve with EI.
When I first started to put this stuff together last Nov. or so I spoke with the guys at EI and we went through their whole camera lense set and ultimately convinced me that it was in fact mimicking a real cameras distortion characteristics. So I wanted to test… I have been able to successfully match up RayDream Studio’s camera with lenses in EI but I have had no luck with AM’s camera.
Now it gets very very very close but the further you get from the center of the image more and more things don’t line up.
So that’s where it is. I would like to test with another package to make sure about my feelings that the hash camera is having problems but I don’t have LightWave or CD4.
I also don’t want to disseminate this info and have someone come back to me claiming the process is F O S (full of sh…)
A solution that I have found is to apply some sort of spherical distortion in photoshop, but at this point your just shooting in the dark.
What do you think?

Sounds like youve been doing a lot of work! :> Have you tried talking with Steve or Ken at hash? Get thier input on this whole lens thing? As far as LW or C4d I know Wegg uses LW and PJC uses C4d. Maybe they can help out. A plugin that can help AM work with those other apps would be great! Or a method of combining both apps.

I will send Steve an email about this to see what’s what but I have a feeling that they won’t address it. While we may think combining both apps is a great idea, they may not be too helpful.
Anyhows I’ll let you know how I make out.
