3d Magic Carpet-like Rig? Maya

Hello CG Talk, I’m hoping someone out here can throw some help my way.

I’m working as an animator on a freelance project, and the client is looking to animate dancing paper, using Disney’s Aladdin’s Magic Carpet as the primary reference, the way it bends and stretches while retaining it’s shape. I admit I’m not much of a rigger myself, and am looking for anything and everything that might point me towards a better rig. At the moment the feet are FK/IK switches and the body has a general COG, while the “arms” and “hands” are blendshapes, because I could not get the weighting desired using the previously layed out rig.

if there are free rigs out there that I might find and modify, that would be most helpful. If not, any tips or tricks for retaining the smooth, clean curve on the side of the paper while the tips move about.
