3D in 3D games???

#1

Hi!

I am using Maya 7.0 Unlimited to create the game graphics…and I’m planning to use a programming language called Blitz3D for the programming part (it has some kind of inbuilt game engine). The thing is, I have created a race course for a rally game, with trees and all. But how do I export that in Maya so that I can use it for games (so that I can pan around the map in the game, and place a car on the map, and program that car so that I can drive it on the race course), I can’t export it as an image right?..cause a game map cant be an image? So how do I do? plz help…I’m really new to game development with 3D.

Thanks/ Robin

There’s a LOT to programming and graphics that you need to learn about. It’s not easy and takes a huge load of time-like years to learn & make things. I have no idea what Blitz3D can do, you really should just read the manual on it to see exactly how it’s game engine works and if there’s exporters from maya.

It really all depends on Blitz3d and what file formats it can load.
you are correct, you won’t be using an image of your content. You will be using a 3d model.
Not sure about Blitz, but other engines can import *.obj, *.3ds, *.x and others.
Check the docs for Blitz.

you just asked how to make racing game!

Id go to Blitz forums… or/and do their tutorials.

From the Blitz3d website:

Meshes are the workhorse of any 3D engine. Blitz allows you to either create your own meshes from scratch, or load existing meshes in either X, 3DS or B3D format. The B3D format is unique to Blitz3D, and has been designed to provide for all the features of the Blitz3D engine. B3D exporters are available for a wide range of modelling software including 3D Studio, Lightwave and Truespace. Blitz3D meshes provide features such as vertex colors and multiple texture coordinate sets.

So from Maya, plan on exporting in X format.
