3 paintings. All done in Sketchbook Pro.

Hey everyone! Thank you for all the feedback!

Sorry Bob … we now return this thread to it’s regularly scheduled topic.

No no… I really don’t mind the Sketchbook talk. I really love the program and I believe that as long as people just take an hour or 2 to fiddle with Sketchbook Pro, they’ll find that it’s an extremely good program for art, digital painting and ESPECIALLY for quick sketches and rough paintings.

When I first started doodling in Sketchbook alot of people left comments saying that they didn’t like Sketchbook. Not enough functions, filters, blah blah blah but I believe that tho filters and other little Photoshop goodies are great, sometimes people go too overboard with the stuff and start depending on these functions as a crutch.

Don’t get me wrong now… there are tons and tons of people that know exactly how to use these great PS functions. I’m talking about beginner artists. Sketchbook Pro makes you use more traditional art skills which I believe makes people improve their art FUNDEMENTALS much much quicker.

I find that I’m also able to draw and paint sooooo much quicker with Sketchbook Pro than PS or Painter (eventho I’ve used PS since PS3 and painter since Painter Classic). I just set one button on my pen to {alt} for eyedropper and the other to {spacebar} for move/zoom tool and I can go from brush, move, zoom, eyedropper, and eraser all with just my pen.

I also love the brush strokes that you get. Dunno what exactly it is but it just seems so nice and soft…

Laura04 - Actually the car painting should be actual size. Sketchbook has an awesome feature that DE-PIXELIZES the image as you zoom in so you can make small details much easier!

Kirt - thanks! I LOVE digital lifedrawing! Just waiting for a newsprint sized tablet pc and I’ll be totally rockin!! hehehe…

fantasio - Thank you for the c&c. Actually the car WAS supposed to be a bit carricaturized so thanks! The Clint was a speed painting so I wanted to leave it as such. Once I retire, I’ll go back and finish it off;) but as for now… I’m going to leave it as is.

TrapperJohn - Thank you and no problem! I think you people at Alias are just great and full of FRESH THINKING. I love the custom brush options, the zoom/move tool, and the depixelizing function the most. Very innovative. I can’t wait to see what Alias comes up with next!

To conclude… I just wanted to say that I still love Photoshop and Painter but when I do any of my freelance illustrations now I always use with Sketchbook Pro for at least half the painting process because i can sketch quicker in it which allows me to put down my ideas while they’re still nice and fresh in my mind.

here’s a few more Sketchbook pics…
These 3 are just personal quick little ruff sketches and aren’t meant to look finished.

Cheers,
B

More great additions, Bob. The forest has a nice mood to it and the axe girl … well … you just have to sometimes right? Rawr!

My fav of this bunch is the apartment illustration. So there are a few perspective and anatomy problems, but overall it has a really nice comfortable feeling to it. The girl’s expression is nice, somewhere between bored and interest (an interesting balance).

On the subject of Sketchbook Pro again … I gave this to my kids to play with (age 9 and 6) and they immediately took to the application without me having to explain all of the tools. Basically I opened up the tool and color palette and let them go at it.

This really says a lot about the simplicity and intuitive functions of the application. My kids don’t play on the computer much so they’re not what you’d call “computer savvy”. I was amazed at how they just adapted to the software. They loved it and I don’t think it could have been any easier for them.

I tried other drawing programs for them, but they just seemed amatuerish (Disney’s Magic Artist Studio) or just too complex for thier age level (Yeah, they tried Photoshop too).

Sketchbook Pro works like pencil on paper and this is what they are used to. Maybe Sketchbook Pro wasn’t designed as a children’s application, but man … it works!!

Added bonus … they also enjoy watching me work with it.
