I kind of like them all. Great style. I guess if anything Id want you to finish the clint eastwood pic. I think finishing the hair with texture and what not would really give it even a more accurate look.

I love what the program allows you to do, it looks very intuative, I just wish it were available for mac as well as PC.

Sketchbook Pro is available for the Mac
They just released an upgrade version and new Mac version.

Great work Bobert! I love the look of the first one best. Nice character and brush work there. I’m not to thrilled about the car because it’s pink and stretched (extreme!), but that’s just personal preference. Clint = very good likeness and nicely illustrated. Needs some work on the hair, but very minor negative on the overall work.

I like Sketchbook Pro and I’m looking forward to downloading the update and checking out the fixes. I did a review of this software for CGNetworks (anyone see it?) so I’m not going to bore you with duplicated statements.

Hey Digital! man, just wanted to say you totally rock with Sketchbook. I downloaded and tried it out yesterday… I have no idea how the hell you painted like that in Sketchbook Pro. My stuff came no where close

2: Needs more contrast , maybe black instead of dark green?
And maybe you should try some reflections on the car.
3: Needs more contrast again.
And too much black around his head.
If he’s angry you can show it differently.

  1. nice character, I think I really like this one. beautiful feel to it. well rendered too.

  2. cars are really hard to render and I think you did really good. Even though it was your first.

Hey Bob, did you get your tablet PC and Cintiq yet? Just curious how much nicer it is to actually sketch direct to the screen. I’ve never really adapted to drawing on a tablet while looking at the screen. I guess I’m used to seeing that line created underneath my pencil/pen.

I just downloaded the latest update and the hotkeys are a major plus! Thanks to the Alias crew for adding the Alt select for color picking (my biggest gripe of the previous version).

I was really surprised at how much faster my work has gotten with my new found toys! It’s like drawing on magic paper!

Especially with the new version of Sketchbook Pro. The new hot keys - ‘Alt’ for color picking, and ‘space bar’ for the hand/zoom tool makes working in Sketchbook Pro insanely fast!

I painted the “Black Samurai” and “Convertible” with the Cintiq. I did the “Clint” on my tablet PC. The only gripe I have with the tablet PC is that it’s hard to paint in brightly lit places cuz of the glare you get from laptop monitors. However with my tablet PC, it’s allowed me the freedom to do some pretty cool stuff like digital sketching OUTDOORS or/and IN THE DARK. But my favorite new hobby is digital LIFEDRAWING. VERY COOOOL!

First, congrats for “freefalling weiner dog”. IMO the most original sketch for that topic. Also, I’ve always liked your avatar. Nora Jones? Dead on caricature.

Black Samurai – great figure, but I’m even more impressed by the dust cloud blur. Perfect!

Car – looks like a few different cars stretched out and stuck together. Corvette front and Cadilac in back, perhaps? Nice job.

Clint – fairly photoreal, but looks like an exaggerated squint and mop hair. Very nice. I think the original (from Rolling Stone Magazine) has a darker background at left of pic which explains the “missing ear”. Nice work.

hey I was trying out the Sketchbook Pro 1.1. Do you make your own brushes? if so, what brushes do you use?

Ilikesoup - Thank you for the kind words.

Big Boi - I usually set one brush with low opacity (minimum & maxium around 0.5) and one with high opacity (minimum & maxium around 25 or higher).

Both brushes have brush sizes with the minimum dramatically lower than the maximum brush size (eg. min is set at 0.4, max set at 50) It gives me a lot more freedom with my brush strokes.

Then I keep the brush options window open and adjust my brushes accordingly as I go along.

Cool … an actual staffer from Alias! Welcome to CGTalk TrapperJohn. With the latest version fixes, the only thing I can think of that would make me like this software more would be for you to send me a tablet PC or Wacom Cintiq like Bob has. Heheheh :smiley:
