3 paintings. All done in Sketchbook Pro.

Hey everyone!

Haven’t been posting for a while… but now I’m back.

I did these for Alias Wavefront’s Sketchbook Pro. This project was great cuz they allowed me to have total freedom of what to paint!

Some people find Sketchbook to be too limited in functionality but I find that it’s the perfect program to do quick sketches and paintings. I love the brushes. They give such a nice soft touch to your brush strokes.

I’m curious to know what others have thought of Sketchbook Pro…
Anyone have any opinions or questions about it?

So anyways…here’s what I came up with… C&C is more than welcome.

First one is probably my favorite…

title: Black Samurai

#2

I believe this is the first car I’ve ever painted. It was definitely a good learning experience.

title: convertible

#3

and thirdly… just a quickie… took about 3 hrs.

title: Clint

#4

I like the first one . And i don’t love the other …

TheFish - I always appreciate the C&C whether they’re good or bad but when you only say “I don’t like it” and you don’t say why you don’t like it or what I’m missing or can improve on…

those kinds of comments do not get me any where…

If you could elaborate, that would help me out plenty. Thanks

All of these look great. I don’t really have any crits for them. I used Sketchbook Pro for sketches and for work that needs clean linework, I like it a lot but it’s missing some functionality because of it’s leaning toward Tablet PC users. However if you just need a digital drawing/painting program and don’t need the photo editing capabilities of Photoshop or all the media of Painter then this is the best $180 you can spend.

hope I didn’t sound like an @ss. I’m just trying to get some helpful feedback :wavey:

#8

no no… I don’t think you sound like an @ss. I hate it when people just give a negitive comment and that’s it.
How can someone improve if all you hear is “nope. don’t like that one” Jeez… it’s like, what don’t you like about it?? If you tell me, then I can change it! jeez…

Anyways, your stuff rocks! no crits here. love the lighting on the samurai pic. love the different styles from one pic to the other.

1:st Great stuff!
2:nd : Nice, clean details. Nothing that sticks out but I guess thats ok for that kind of picture
Clint; dont like the backround. For some how I dont like the shading either, face seems a bit plastic, yet theres no detail and colour in the shadows.

nice work
all of nice , i like 1st one !!!"

I like the first one, it has good depth and style to it.

The car looks odd too me. Both of the hub caps look at of perspective. The back wheel ( on the right) looks too high compared to the other tires. The whole tire things makes the whole pic look out of perspective.

Third one looks like Clint Eastwood. Face and body looks great. Add some detail to the hair to make it stand out more. And you should be able to see both ears unless his hair is covering it up.

#12

first one looks great, only (minor) thing is that he doesn’t look to much like an asian… but that’s about it. nice!

I don’t like the second one too much, but that’s probably because I don’t like cars and never liked anything painted in an ‘airbrush’-style… so, my bad. :stuck_out_tongue:

the face of clint looks great, well done. I think the hair is a bit to voluminous (uh, right word? I guess you know what I mean anyway) though…

but I have to agree with big boi, the usage of three different styles is quite impressive.

#13

nice stuff. the style in the first one is great

#14

digital_bobert, i just love your “convertible” image, great sense of style and design, i just soooo wish modern cars would be like this…although in a slightly shorter versions :stuck_out_tongue:

Now i´m supposed to write some comments about how you can improve it but frankly i don´t see how you can…you can change it and make it different but not better, my only nitpick detail would be to see the whitewalls have sharper edges but hey…it´s a painting, not a machinist bluprint!

Great stuff…please post more if you got anything in this designstyle

#15

Great work. I like your style.
My favorite is the first

#16

WOW I really like these! The first one is my fav, I really like the atmosphere of that one.
The car is sweet! It remindes me of the red catallac from “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”
And the quicky Clint is nice too, thou if you went back and put some details into the hair it would look even better

#17

wow digi_bob you sure know what you’re doing!

1st - awesome cute style of character… the lighting is done really well, and i love the ground texture. A++ **also as weasel.acuh5o
mentioned, he doesn’t look like an asian… i looked again - it’s called “BLACK Samurai” ;D

2nd - very sexy machine indeed, lovely mood and lighting w/ this one, only crit is it seems the texture of the car has a bit of a matte finish. maybe harsher highlights?

3rd - definately could tell who it once instantly, very nice. my crit is he does appear to be a bit plastic, as someone mentioned - also maybe desaturate his skin tone just a tad.

hope this helps - overall you’re doing juuuust fine!

Hey thanks for all the feedback everyone!! Now for some individual replies

MonsterMangler - Thanks for the comment! I agree with you on all points. Sketchbook Pro is fantastic for sketching and cleaning up.

Being a tablet PC user I also love the fact that it doesn’t need a mouse or keyboard to run.

It’s fully functional with just the tablet pen. It’s also missing some functionality in my opinion but the good thing is I’m told the next version will have alot of new functions in there so I can’t wait to try it out.

Big Boi - Thanks man! My girlfriend told me that she thinks she knows you. Do you live in Oakville?

Alice - Thank you for the feedback! The “Clint” pic was done in a little under 3hrs and the background done in about 20 seconds… lol… so I’d definitely love to work on it a bit more. I put it on my “to do list.”

direndra - Thanks!

Phantomstranger - Thanks for the c&c. I appreciate it. The convertible was the first car that I’ve painted so I’ll definitely do much better on the next one. This one was a bit of a learning experience for me.

weasel.acuh5o - Thanks for the feedback! The samurai in the first pic looks black cuz he IS black… lol… hence the title of the piece “Black Samurai”

As for the car… I’m the same as you. I always liked painting characters more then vehicles. characters just seem more interesting to me but after painting my first vehicle painting, I’ve found a new respect for vehicles.

fizzgig/dgpilot/jack_sparrow - Thanks! the first one’s my fav too. I started my art education in 2d animation so I’ve always been a little partial to nice cartoony, designy stuff.

tomra - Thank you for the kind words. I actually drew out 3 samurais but only had time to paint one of them. I’ll definitely try to get to the other 2 as soon as I get some more free time.

iamintricate - Thanks for the c&c! I’ll try both the suggestions about the car and the Clint painting… as soon as i get a free moment :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks again everyone for all the great feedback!

Cheers,
Bobby

Now I’ll leave you with this very quick 10minute doodle I did for the first “Sketch of the Day” thread. Topic: Freefall.

It won the sketch of the day. (Whoo hoo) So I thought I’d mention that this too was done 100% in Sketchbook Pro.
