That’s awesome! Was it one complete simulation that you cut the cameras around, or were they all separate setups and shots?
3 Day Cinematic Challenge! Again!-WINTER Challenge- Post your ideas
For those that are in, I would really like to run this like the old WIP challenges, where you create a thread and update it as you go along.
Ive found that if you involve others in the process it can really motivate you to carry on moving forwards!
Seeing how others are doing something may inspire us to try out different things, or give some advice to others in how they are tackling things!
We did this in stages. Each stage was simulated in one go. I made the source files for each stage available on my website. Since we knew that we would be pressed for time at some point we decided early on to create stuff in parts so we could wrap the project up at any time and have at least a complete line of action. It turned out that we got as much as we hoped for and had two stages left over that we weren’t able to finish, but did not expect to finish anyway.
With an earlier 24h challenge we created a complete storyboard and when time ran out we substituted the unfinished parts with the storyboard, it was still a nice project .)
See - its stuff like this where I think a ‘3 Day Cinematic Challenge’ can really help people learn!
Ok guys guve me AT LEAST a week so we can write up the rules and I can promote it.
Maybe we could start on the weekend of 29th of August.
-R
Well I’m inn, if time (life) allows for it
(edit: that weekend should be fine).
I have no idea what I would make,
but I’m sure it would include some sort of tatoo’ed girl,
some sci-fi stuff, lotsa glowy panels and abrams amount of lense flares… just… to be original.
I would jump in as well… but min. 60 seconds is scary, because even at 24FPS, it’s still 1440 frames to render. Those with free access to their renderfarm at work for example would be in clear advantage. So i would at least cut it in half… 30 seconds…
That sounds cool Roberto! Im in!
For the challenge, how about we take a look around for some resources we can use? Motion capture libraries, model sites, VideoCoPilot tutorials? Textures? Etc.
Ill come up with a list tonight to integrate into the post - Im sure that you other guys also have a plethora of resources to share!
I say we also give a few topics to choose from. I really liked Falk’s selections:
- “Detached”
- “0.5”
- “Flowerbed”
- “Sober Bloodbath”
You can always aim for 60, and if you can only do 30 that’s awesome! Aim high, push yourself! An establishing shot of a matte painting with camera projection can get you almost real-time rendering speeds…I’m sure there are a lot more tricks that we can come up with to squeeze the most out of our time!
Ok this WILL happen.
Ok time to organize ourselves.
I will post an formal call to action thread at the FXwars forums later today.
So lets start organizing those who wish to join teams/ 2 weeks should be plenty of time.
Solo entries of course are kosher.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO?
FILMING?
EDITING?
ANIMATION?
VFX?
MOTION GRAPHICS?
What is YOUR SOFTWARE?
Do you have LEGAL access to:
A Studio?
Filming equipment?
Camera?
What is your LOCATION?
Do you want to work with a local team or Remotely?
Do you have a preference (live Action or Animation?
Hey guys - I may have to fast track my entry to this weekend, as next weekend is going to be a little heavy for me!
Ill try to move stuff around - but if I cant Ill keep you all updated, and will certainly be as involved next weekend as possible!
OK I will allow for people to do entries THIS weekend.
What I will do is to have similar topics on different weekends.
Like for example FIRE in one, and ICE in another. What do you guys think?
Oooh - I really like that! Its like a life vs death thing.
We could always have the ‘main’ challenge run over a longer period so that people can pick and choose which weekend they can work over? That may help with something like this having such an insanely short deadline - and allow people to participate when they can instead of having to wait a few weeks/months between challenges just because someone cant quite make it on a specific weekend.
So Sprint 1 could be:
22 August, 23 August, 24 August.
Sprint 2
29 August, 30 August, 31 August,
Sprint 3
5 September, 6 September, 7 September.
That may also help this gain a bit of traction on the forum - people may see the Sprint 1 and 2 stuff, and be inspired to join in Sprint 3.
Hey guys,
Ive managed to organize some cool prizes for this. More info to come a little later!
-C
Roberto, that would be great. So where do we create the threads? Is there going to be a new section in the mini challenges? Or we just use WIP animation for now?
So Sprint 1 could be:
22 August, 23 August, 24 August.
So who’s in for the first sprint? Shall we lock a theme? Anything would go, really.
Im in for this sprint. I think we just use the existing forums. Perhaps at a later date if this takes off there can be some sort of dedicated place for it - but the normal WIP Animation forums are perfect for now!
If I am say “I am in”, something will just pop out, and I’ll be unable to do it.
So, I’ll just keep my mouth shut, and hopefully, will create something that will push my skills further.
Anyway, whenever I am in, or out, I’ll watch all threads.
offtopic:
@Puke
I watched yesterday what you did for the first “3 days cinematic” challenge, and it is stunning.
I also watched making off, and very interested in some of the stuff you did there.
Is it possible to upload slower version of making off, if you still got original capture?
I am mostly interested in creation of the trees (was that a camera projection?), and your compositing process.
