20 Years of Photoshop

#1

I had no idea that the 10th of this month was the 20th year of photoshop. Happy Bday photoshop

Photoshop has been a part of every web designer’s life since they picked up their first mouse. On February 10th, 2010, Photoshop turns twenty. To mark this anniversary, we’ve come up with an article that takes you through the evolution of Photoshop from its modest beginnings as a bundled program sold with scanners to its current version.

The first version of photoshop I used was version 4, it has surely come a long way.

Proud to be an “official” user of photoshop:)

Same here, I enjoy using the cs3 production bundle. At my workplace we just got cs4, but I haven't tried it out as yet.

I started on Photoshop 2.5 in the mid 90s. Before layers. When you deselected a group of pixels, it was stuck there. You had one undo to make sure. I tell my students that story and get blank stares in return.

Thanks for the post, Stephen!

Hopefully Adobe will finally add true colour brushes - it’s a long time coming, me thinks. And better layer masking. A node-based system in combination with layers would be nice too  .

Actually, I yearn for the day someone will FINALLY develop a true competing product - we have so many (professional) choices when it comes to 3D, DTP, animation, video editing, compositing, text processing, and so on, and so forth. It is quite amazing that there is no true alternative available for Photoshop - not exactly a niche market. Someone could make a buck-load of money. Probably.

hmmmm, I never thought of it like that. And your actually right. No program has ever attempted to even compete with photoshop which is a surprise. Hopefully the future can change that. Provide us with more of an exciting battle between two amazing pieces of software.

Adobe TV has the hilarious presentation of Russel Brown for the 20 years of Photoshop. Worth seeing…
