2 Monitors- Good for your eyes?

#1

Hello
I have 1 monitor so far 16801050px 22 inches LCD TN samsung. Im thinking abotu buying new monitor, probably 24 inches TB 1980something px, some normal monitor (nothing profesional too expensive) to use next to mine current. I have question if using 2 monitors (different ones, different resolution and different screen width (22 inches vs 24 inches) is better for human eyes or worse than 1 monitor solution, becuse i thought that 2 monitors are worse (since more (twice) “lcd light” radiation or “whatever” hits your eyes), but friend told me that having more monitors is actually better for your eyes, since when looking “back and forward” from each to the other one, your eyes are “refocusing” (or something) and its actually healthier for them.

So are 2 monitors better then one for ones health (eye health, sight etc.)?

Assuming good ergonomics it’ll be fine. What could be bad is if one monitor is way off to the side so the user is always looking to their right or left instead of straight ahead. As for the radiation there isn’t any other than visible light like you’d get from a lamp in the room. What you’re probably thinking of is X-ray radiation emitted by CRT monitors (modern monitors don’t do this).

If you haven’t yet look into good computer ergonomics and how to arrange things properly. It will go a long way in making you feel better on a day to day basis if you spend a lot of time at a computer. Also take a break once an hour and walk around, focus your eyes on something far away…

There’s no ‘radiation’ as such to worry about, and more light isnt going to harm you. Just make sure you work in a well lit room, thats it really.

If eyestrain is something that annoys you when working late, you might consider using an open source application like f.lux to dim the colors of your monitor when it becomes darker. I’ve been using it in my 2 Monitor setup for a while. Only thing is of course you’ll have to remember turning it off when working with color sensitive projects  It really makes any personal use much more pleasant at night, and when doing any animation or modeling (where it doesn’t matter that much how the colors look yet) it is a real bliss to the eyes.
