100 Characters

#60

Hi, I’m glad many people are liking the character reel.
Some people are asking about the specs of my computer. Here they are:

Processor: Intel Quad Core 64bit 2.4GHz
Video: GeForce 8800 GTX 768 MB
RAM: 4GB Kingstone
MOBO: ASUS P5K premium/wi-fi ap
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 32MB 7200RPM
Windows XP pro 64bit
LW 9.3.1

The scene had almost 10 million polys. No bones. Basic procedural texturing.
Lighing:1 Area light + 5 passes of Montecarlo radiosity. I wanted to test the power of the workstation. It gave me an average of 2.40 to 3.00 minuts per frame. Not bad, uh?

Again, thanks for the positive feedback. It’s fun to see Proton’s work displayed all together, or at least part of it

Cheers.

Hey Alejandro, nice specs on that system. Have you tried even larger scene files since you created this one?

#62

Hey proton

Some great models and designs you have there.:applause:

Very impressive and Very nice presented too.
Are the models rigged?

5* from me

#63

Nope. That’s been the largest so far

#64

Some of them were rigged for posing but I froze them as transformed objects before I brought them to the final scene so it didn’t have to deal with bones slowing down the system.

#65

Thats an impressive amount of characters! Lots of variety too. Nice way to present something as potetially boring as a modelling reel. It holds your intrest, and doesnt suffer from most modeling reel flaws like slow, boring wireframe spins.

I was thinking of doing some sort of reel where all my characters are together and interacting, but unlike yourself, most of my characters are all varying scales, meaning tiresome biped scaling and skin re-initialising!

#66

Great job on the toons and render.

#67

Wow, Princess Leia is soo cool! :buttrock:

P.S: I’d really love to see a time lapse modeling video of you

#68

You should see her in action…

Hey, Proton… amazing work you’ve made.

Many funny and appealing characters that would made me happy to have on my shelves.

Congratulations, and have 100 more soon.

#70

Thats really good. I like your style

#71

you could actully have it in real time. William’s a speedy modeler.

#72

Thanks for the link, great project!

@BookMansBlues:

Hehe, then realtime would be much better than a time lapse

#73

And i like how its been presented.

This is sure inspirational.

#74

That’s a really cool way to show your skills and I love seeing the wireframes!

#75

something of its own kind. very inspirational.

#76

Congrats on the front page! Well deserved.

#77

Great work, love the models and the demo. Keep it up!

May I know the name of the song?

#78

It’s great to see an expert Lightwaver here. I’ve certainly heard about you William!

I have a question about rights and usage of the models. I am making a beginning to intermediate character animation rigging tutorial DVD for ElectricImage users. It would be for sell, but it’s mostly a labor of love. The CA community using EIAS is small.

I was planning to use mesh of yours (comic guy) which I resculpted in Zbrush. Would their be any usage fees or copyright infringements? I was trying to save some time.

I thought if I resculpted the model enough, it would be a new work. I believe I accomplished the "remake", however, I may need to redo some of the topology, so I'm not sure if I'm going to use it. The mesh is great but I don't think it was created with the redesign in in mind.

Anyway, have enjoyed and studied your work for years now. Thanks.

[edit: Not tryingto jump the thread, just I couldn’t find a direct email for you. Thanks]
