Hi AbsorbentGhost, first of all you use automatic system (simulation) here is just keyframe animation, you may add heavyball key frame animation also ,but it is taking attention from your main animation, …Do not forget we are chritisizing just keyframe animation and pure wiev…audiences can lost the heavy ball animation detail while in the scene there are alot of things…

here is the rules again

Rules---------------------------

  1. No Render

  2. No camera moving

  3. No lighting

  4. No anything to taking attention from animation

  5. It is going to be just ball in the scene and nothing else(supported ground is acceptable)

  6. Front or Side camera will be accaptable

  7. Texture : It can be checker or wireframe with shaded view

Best Regards
Egeman

Hi Sebek128 , till now for me the best animation has arrived, just 1 thing i notice, it is totally cool but second bouncing made me feel lighter ball little, i think it might hit the ground quicker then now but totally it s cool

#26

I would allow additional objects.
I think that the animated box like in example helps to show the weight of the ball.
I have made it quite similar, ball tilts the box so You feel its heavy.

#27

I agree Sebek128, step by step this threat will be better…so second comp will be more difficult and more freedom …

#28

just by a show of hands ,write down ure names, the programs u guys use and ure skill level in a post below.im planning the next challenge, for some animation group work.here are some possible titles

animate a character fight cycle for a Warcraft character,

animate a character fight cycle for a Orc/Cave troll in lord of the rigns

post any others ,

(this is an intermidiate level users but if ure just strating out if would be good experience for u to join,it’s noting big, simple characters)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmxGOE3E5yk a bit changed version
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDTLfhkOF4U second ver that follow rules completely

#30

Hi Sebek128 ,second post animation, it seems ok ,just a bit end of the ball can be little more rolling left and right side very slightly while ending( it is stopping directly but loosing energy should be there i think) but its cool

#31

thanks Reactric…

Well, I’m new to the forum and probably later this day i’ll be posting my animation too, but, I just saw the rules and I was just wondering the range of things that can happen. I mean, can I add a second ball to futher explore the movement, or should I stick with simplicity and make one simple ball falling to the ground? =)

Oh, and another thing… is it necessary to display the frame counter? It’s a shame that youtube cannot provide a frame-by-frame engine, but dunno, maybe in later challenges it might be useful.

By the way, the animations are looking good thus far. I’ll wait to post mine so I can comment on some of them. ^^

#33

Thats true it stopped too suddenly.
Already fixed:

thats better , congratulations

For everyone who had trouble with ball spin:
i have done some cheating and made a simple rig, I have created a control object circle and made a connection network in hypershade to modify ball spin.
rotateZ of ball become ( (2piradius)/TranslateX) *360 + spin
spin is an additional attribute to add some rotation to the ball

So I was animating only translateX, translateY and I got ball rolling on the ground automatically and after that I just added some more spin while ball was getting off the edge or was in the air.

Cool Challenge. I’ve been out of the CG world for a while now… I’ll use this challenge to come back into animation. Cheers!

#37

Thanks for pointing that out, I look back at it and the timing was really off. I started to go back and tighten the Frames up. Hopefully I’ll have it up sometime this weekend.

#38

Sebek128 Good work on the animations I like the one with the reaction from the box. I don’t think it takes attention away from the animation but adds a good complement to it.

It’s pretty smart to automate the rotation. I just end up doing all the movement first and save the rotation last. But setting up a rig definitely would be helpful.

#39

Hi all,

Here is my first attempt on it. Been a looooong time (3 years) since I got to animate anything.
Cheers!

Hi Adamkaradon, well if second ball will be light ball or as baloon or other knid of animation i think its quite early for it, i opened this comp. because i wanted to make it so simple for first, and we just concantrate timing and spacing… Lets keep it simple ,then time will come to make complicated animation.

As I wrote inthe rules, if you can put timecode it will be super helpfull to describe other wise as you know we cancritisize just mainly. We are looking forwardto see your animations )
