0.98.27 is out

#1

Yes it is.

#2

Yes great neaws… thanks. Going to see what’s updated

#3

hide selected faces is a big step in Wings3D history! :bounce:

#4

Yes it is

#5

Apart from Paint Deform, Max’s editable poly has no advantages over Wings now.

#6

Awesome release! Great work bjorn and the team!

#7

Extrude along a path that’s all ^^
(and They miss Guizmo modifier with Wings (move, rotate ans scale))

#8

and They miss Guizmo modifier with Wings (move, rotate ans scale

…and whoever said Wings users wanted that?

#9

What modifier? Do you mean gizmos? In that case no they don’t, because gizmos don’t fit in with Wings. Wings has its own ways of handling coordinate systems and transform centres.

#10

Not sure to all understand (yes i’m french ^^)
But in other soft there’s grip/ axe gizmo (C4D ans 3DSi’m sure other i don’t know) and when i activate move (for example) and that i move axe it move selection directly… Yes better solution for me it’s to assign shortcut and use it… But i like to have visual axe and tokk it directly…
I am the only to ask it ? sorry, i’m new with this great soft(and free yeahh! thanks again to developpers)

#11

The same goes for Maya, XSI, Houdini, Modo, Silo, and many others. But gizmos are just a way of solving the problem of coordinate systems/reference points. Wings solves it differently in a very elegant way with its advanced menus. It doesn’t need gizmos.
Metaphorically speaking, you could hammer an exhaust pipe onto a bike, but why would you want to?
EDIT: You guessed it, you’re not the only one to ask for gizmos. This question comes up with every release.

#12

J’avais bien compris.

It’s a normal process for the new wings user.Mine was;

1:Came from Max,

2:Learned Wings slowly and how to live without them,

3:Realized the many disadvantage they brought to me(SLOW editing, being in the way more than often and cluttering the view, having to click precisely on the axes and sometimes clicking outside)

4:Hate them religiously and turn them off at all cost if available.

#13

You atre not the 1st to ask…This topic has been hotly debated over many times in the past. The devs say they will never incorporate widgets/gizmos/manipulators/grips/whateveryoucallthem into Wings3D. Sorry.

Release Name: 0.98.27

Notes:

  • New command: Hide in the face pop-up menu. Hides the selected faces. Use Show All in the body pop-up menu to show all faces again.
  • Trying to edit UV coordinates for an object that was only partially UV-mapped would cause a crash.
  • AutoUV no longer causes a hard crash of Wings when there is problem in starting it.
  • If there were hidden lights in the scene (without any selection), saving would cause a crash. (Problem reported by Vagabond.)
  • Better handling of degenerate faces (such as the face obtained by insetting a face 100%) to avoid hard crashes. (Problem reported by 3D Martin.)
  • Trying to UV-map only faces having the hole material would cause a crash. Changed to show an error dialog instead. (Problem reported by Jide.)
  • Corrected Grow Edge Loop so that it no longer inccorrectly adds virtual mirror edges to the selection. (Problem reported by xr4y.)
  • OBJ files from ZBrush 2 can now be imported. (Thanks to Leif Buckley.)
  • For some complex selection boundaries, Dissolve (for faces) would refuse to do its work, instead showing an error dialog box. Corrected.

StephanD> Bon mon anglais est pas si mauvais si tu avais compris.

cluttering the view
Agree with it ^^
I’ve said … i’m new, so now, I use Wings like if it was a 3ds without some buttons and fonctions and I discovered slowly function…
I’ll look the advanced menus…
Thanks to all … I’ll talk about this again

#16

As a workaround, you can extrude once, then add and edit edge loops along the extrusion. This method is not much worse.

#17

<< As a workaround, you can extrude once … >>

Yes, certainly one approach, but there are quite a few more, depending on what you’re trying to achieve and how ‘clean’ you want the final mesh to be.

#18

GIZMOS??!!!

…and whoever said Wings users wanted that?

WHO???!!!

#19

ya… I cringe when I want to do any piping in wings… or rather, any “bent” piping… for the most part I can eyeball in from an ortho view but it really is slow :stuck_out_tongue:

You never know though, Wings just got Hide Faces, maybe they will suprise us with a Extrude along path :stuck_out_tongue:

But I think the biggest problem with that is figuring out what kind of “path” to extrude along. Because, if Im not mistaken, most packages use spline curves to extrude along? And unless something magical happens I don’t think wings can handle them, though I didn’t think wings could handle Hide Faces (well I did, but not really…) so you never know…

I cringe when I want to do any piping in wings… or rather, any “bent” piping…

Ever try setting a default axis somewhere along the plane of the pipe end? Extrude 0, rotate on default by n-amount of degrees, and repeat? This also works great for parallel pipes and keeps the spacing consistant.

I’ll wait a few days and see if there’s any more bugs before updating. Seems cool though and I’m sure I could use that face hiding feature.
