Concept / pre-visualization: Wizard of Oz idea...

Er so the concept is a warped wizard of Oz:

The wicked witch has used the winged monkeys to capture the scarecrow, tinman and lion. She stands in her fancy manhattan apartment petting one of the winged monkeys, skyscrapers visable through the windows and probably a zeppelin outside. The Scarecrow is on all fours, chained to a bolt in the floor. His scarecrow mask looks gimp like, given his quandry. Behind him is the witches huge crystal ball. Behind that in the far distance, doors lead to a room where the tinman is just visable, chained to a bed. Dorothy hides behind a corner, hoping to rescue her friends but also terrified. And the lion is merely a fur pelt now on the floor...

The sketch is very basic and I think most things will change some. The witches pose isnt working for me yet and could be used to lead the eye better into the room so i may change that further down the line. May give the scarecrow a tea-set on his back to further enhance his gimpness. Havent really nailed in stone any of the outfits yet - although dont mind the scarecrow and am definately sticking with the Death's Head Hussar uniform for the monkeys as i think that seems quite appropriate for the costume. Dont know yet whether i'll use golden monkeys (with the gold fur and blue faces) or spider-monkeys (black fur) - need to think about the colour scheme a litle first.

Basically wanted to do something that played on the female archetypes within the story and this seemed to fit nicely into a tongue in cheek 'sexual awakening' premise with S&M vibe!

Hi Selina,

Maybe its better to consider an other setting for the witch. I think this one is too exprssionless. What about a pampous hall with a big throne, a fireplace, high windows and lots of things that show the wealth and power of the witch. There you could try to integrate the tinman , scarecrow and lion more sagnificant than here. And Dorothy is still hiding somewhere checking out the scene.

Keep it up!

Thanks for the comments guys! Glad you like the concept Chris and Ferx!

Yakonsuke -i totally agree - the place needs to be very opulent - it was a pretty fast sketch with only the main elements to get the point across so i didnt bother adding stuff - but stuff there will be! Think i'll stick to the manhattan apartment tho as it goes with the concept i have in my head pretty well.

Martin - lol yeah i'll try my hardest but i dont know if there are enough hours in the day frankly! Definately have to give it a shot tho - too cool a challenge not to!

Thinking about it I'm not sure whether i'll keep Dorothy. Might make the image portrait shaped and crop her out of it as im not sure how much the character adds to the scene...
No need to decide now tho - best get on and model something haha!
