Concept Sketch: The Protecta House 2000

In the world of rising crime rates, scientists are forced to develop a new security system. Rather than installing the system in your house or car, it would be installed in the the family pet. Not only does the system protect it's owners life but it prolongs the pets life throgh cyber machinery implanted into the animals brain(d-chip). The "D-chip" controls all the protecta equipment enabling man's best friend the ability to think and contol the optional Protecta equipment.
All it takes is a simple four number code to activate the system. It is at this moment that cute little fido turns into a super crime preventor.
He or she will be able to see at night, detect motion (thermal/seismic), mimic sounds, detain criminals, contact the authorites and much much more.

Damn it - I had that concept drawn down last week. Oh well, going to submit something soon in case it happens again.

Best of luck and welcome to the competition. Like your dog so far.

It's about time!

Lots of cool gadgets there. Should be fun to model all that stuff and have it come to life. Are you going for a realistic look or more of a cartoony feel?

Rendering Technique

I am not really sure of the rendering technique that I am going to use for this scene. I had envisioned a really detailed cartoon style. I don't want it to look cell shaded though. I am open to any ideas you may have!

The reason I bring it up is you'll have to think about the fur issue and how his skin works with all these contraptions. Definitely don't do a cell shade for this. By cartoony, I mean something more playful or misproportioned compared to a real life doggie.

For a cartoony look you could try and experiment with final rendering in Photoshop. Use multiple filters (like cutout) and blending modes.

Rendering Technique

at133: The technique that you mention sounds very interesting. Do you have any examples that you have seen so I can visualize what you mean?

Sandpiper: I am interested in doing something with more of a cartoon feel to it. So I will use exaggerated scale and proportion for the Dog and its gadgets.

Nothing that I can think of right now. You can start with the cutout filter and then fade it to keep some detail and then use another filter (like noise or fresco) and fade it again.

This is coming along nicely. I like the inking and I REALLY look forward to seeing the colored version in the near future. Just dive into the coloring and have fun with it!

Have you considered incorporating some 911 contacter? (My very smart wife's idea.....)

Freaking hilarious. Looks like you've got the concept wrapped up now, so let's see some modeling! Give him some emotion too.

Modeling: Proxy model

Here is the first proxy model of the dog. I will start to detail this model before I flesh out all the mechanical parts. Comments and crits are always welcome!
