and the beat goes on...

My animation director showed this to me. Whether this product works as advertized or not remains to be seen. But this should give you an idea of what the biz is going.

the tech is similar to something they used in lord of the rings for the troll in the caves. they had a lower res nurbs surface, and a higher res surface from a scanned maquette. they created a bump map from the differences between those surfaces, and now the lower res looked like the higher res. it was in an issue of computer graphics world a few months back.

Yeah, Bay Raitt of sub-d and spiraloid fame built that control cage. He did it in Mirai.

This is a link to an old post below. the forum was a little more busy when this stuff was just coming out in movies, but now since it has pretty much established itself in FMV, most of those folks don't post anymore.

But there's a ton of good stuff to put in your headbox.

yeah, i've been to spiraloid a lot. haven't gone to the forums much but now i will. i downloaded the movies and animated gifs of him modeling. its crazy how awesome he is. thanks for the tip.

dunno if you're too interested, but on the polyBump site, it says they're makin a game called X-isle. well, i was poking around IGN and saw that the game was renamed to Far Cry. here's a link:
