Anatomy of an Explosion :: Special Feature

Hey there,

CGSociety intends to break into 2011 with a bang. In trawling thru the Vaults, I found a cool article penned by Double Negative VFX Supervisor Kieron Helsdon. He digs into research done for the animating of various explosions for VFX projects. The history, the photographic coverage, the effects, all to reveal how the REAL explosion works. Read on. Very interesting.

I've never seen a 100% convincing CG explosion, but I bet we're not too far off.

Maybe you have and you just didn't know it! :P

Can't believe somebody took all the time and effort to gather up these great resources and information and share it with everybody. Thanks a ton!

The research on atomic bomb explosions is fascinating and scary at the same time.

This was a great article, thanks for sharing!

Same thing here-some refresh buggers the page. Unfortunetly its not trivial for me to try firefox

Hey guys.,

Yes, it's clearly a browser issue for some. It runs well on all my browsers in testing but I'll get some others to check code when they get in. Safari, Firefox, Chrome, IE, Camino, Opera, even Safari on iPhone works OK here.

Kewl for the record I'm on IE8. And previous articles (archived or not) have had no issues (till this one).

Ah spoke too soon. The Tron Legacy - Production Focus Page does this for me now too.
http://features.cgsociety.org/story...p?story_id=6011

I see the page display for a second or two and then it refreshes 'white'.
I am thinking I was able the read this article in December (its been up that long right?).
So its like something has changed in how your pages are published that IE (v8) doesn't like.
