Ive never used lightwave, but I talked to some guys who have used, and they said its super fast for knocking final shit out. This was a cool preview I like how they talk about speed speed speed.

Just watched the video, that was amazing. My only question is this:

How many apps are there now? So far I've counted 3 (Layout, Modeler, and Core). Are there more?

There are 3 apps, but most of your work will be in modeler and layout. You can think of the third app as a preview with very useful components. The third app (Core) is what going to eventually replace modeler and Layout.

The black and white thing is so edgy and hip.

Good to see some development toward a more modern node based architecture. But seriously, how many years have they been building on that antiquated dual program thing? It's about time.

Core is going to take a long time to finish. I'm glad they are being smart and keeping the old clunky version of layout and modeler reasonably current while they toil away at core.

EDIT: Oh, and yeah, that black and white, darker, edgier thingee was... well.... stupid. Don't do that again, Newtek. Just don't.

+1

A decently made promo overall, but that effect was pointless, and some of the render examples didn't do the program justice.

The features previewed are definitely cool though.

Hey, if it's good enough for Carson Daly...

hehe I love newtek demos. They have a nack of making their demo's a little cheesier than most. Remember the Core demo. Woah boy.

But the main point is the tech is very cool/useful. I think lighting and shading today in most modern apps has become much easier than it ever was. Not only is it more powerful but with tools like VPR and Interactive Rendering its hard not to get immediate feedback on what the scene will look like.

This looks like a very decent update.

LOL the B/W thing could make some sense if it was the vision of blue alien presenting Lw 10

However it was a good advertisement video.

About CORE : CORE is a new rewrite of Lw from the ground up. it's a totally new app, but still in his infancy. It works with Layout and Modeler. CORE is designed to eventually substitute classic Lw, but this will happen gradually since it will require time.
So, Lw 10 is actually composed by Layout, Modeler and CORE, working together.

The interesting thing is also that some technologies, like VPR have been designed for CORE at first and then introduced also in classic Lw, to provide users with a faster workflow, and line up with CORE.

most of the vfx examples there are total pants. surely they could have found better examples to showcase their app? I mean, that stuff from the asylum was pretty dire.

Apart from the useless and distracting black and white effects, this was very informative.
Thanks.
But I'm not upgrading yet, until I hear that this update is production tested and working.
