Problem/edgeflow on hard edge with smooth curve

Hi there, I've been lurking CGsociety for a while now, and finally decided to join up.. i'm a long time modeler who has been too lazy to perfect his skills and i have a question about a model of a car rim i'm making (mostly to improve my skills) and theres an annoying problem with my edgeflow that i cannot seem to master.

Here's my reference:

And heres my problem (enhanced the contrast a little to make it more apparent)

There is no way i can get this to work out when i use NURMS smoothing and i would like to know how you (oh gods of 3d modelling) would do it.

This is my own most successful attempt:

But still the result wont get smooth!

Increase or split the edge should do, it seems like not enough geometry to blend between hard and smooth.
