In what software?

Most 3d software allows an object to have an unlimited number of uv channels, which can help you map your object from a number of different angles.

2nd UV channels are offen used in game engines. Lightmaps or or texture blends are often placed in Map 2 UV channels. For the most part you will want your color map mapped to the First UV channel.
