Environment modeling

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any tutorials or books, or features or anything, that could help with the construction of environments, namely urban areas, I would like if it was for 3ds max, but anything really, from coming up with good ideas for buildings, and environments to constructing those, not so much a tutorial but more like, hmm guidelines, almost like just documentation of someone in the industry going through there entire pipeline for construction of playable environments, anyways, all help depreciated.

PS: videos, pdfs, online, anything would be awesome.

If you don't mind spending a little bit of cash I recomend Eric Hansen from The Gnomon Workshop, I have all of his dvd's, they are excellent! Here's a link http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/st.../53/Eric-Hanson and here is a more specific answer to your question it involves 3ds max http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/st...y/116/Tim-Jones
