Scottish Ninjas

A thousand years ago

A well liquored Scot wandered the seaside, discovered a mysterious bottle and drank its contents.

Unbeknown to him, it contained the trapped spirit of an ancient Japanese warrior!

Now with two spirits, the way of the Scottish Ninja was born!

He adopted three young orphaned lads to train in the ancient ways.

All grown, they are sent to America to find their place in the world.

Once there, they begin their quest to balance the use of excessive force, honor, and near lethal quantities of whiskey...all while searching for the American Dream.

Opening Titles Video

Scottish Ninjas is a project we are developing for television in hopes that it gets picked up as an animated series. Imagine Kill Bill vol. 1, Braveheart, and Southpark all mixed together into a tasty haggis of hacking, hewing, and hilarity.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

We are here looking to talk shop with fellow animation lovers, spark some dialog, and if we are a lil buzz about the concept. We recently finished a 20 minute pilot that we are shopping around. I can post some clips here if people are interested in seeing more.

Impressed with the dedication and passion you and your team has. But nothing about the characters really grips me, or makes me want to keep watching. And the humor comes off as sophomoric, trying too hard to be crude.

It might just not be for me, I'd say keep at it! I'm sure plenty of people like it.

Uh oh Michael, then I am afraid you are going to hate this clip too.

The style is SO cool man! I am guessing you are using a combination of 2d and 3d techniques?

You are correct good sir! It is, indeed, a mix of 2D and 3D techniques. East meets West if you will...but not really...actually that kind of makes no sense at all. It just sounded good. None the less, you are correct.

Another Thrilling Clip!

It's another thrilling moment from the Scottish Ninjas pilot episode! In this clip, Finn wakes up after prior encounter with The Executioner, only to find that he is out of the frying pan and into the fire!

Hahah i like it, it had me laughing anyway. u definetely have the scotish mentality right, that bottle of whiskey would have got "well necked " lol.I thought the accent was really funny or is that just me being from Scotland thinking it sounds ridiculous lol? saying that iv heard far worse in hollywood...
  05 May 2010
Thanks for the kind words Martinf430. I am pleased to hear it had you laughing. As for the accents, it's a difficult balance. We made the decision to tone down the accent and "Americanize" it a little bit so that people who are not overly familiar with a Scottish accent could easily understand the dialog without having to overly concentrate. Sadly, I know a few people who have a hard enough time as it is trying to understand an English accent, let alone anything else. And the last thing we wanted, was a joke to get lost on someone because they couldn't catch the dialog. So we scaled it back. Most people don't seem to notice. But we get the occasional Scotland native who points it out to us. You're the 2nd to do so.

With regards to the accent as much as i hate to say it, it needs to be toned down a bit from how it sounds in reality. i have spoken many times to people from north america who thought i was speaking another language. iv even had "dude are u speaking chinese?" one time lol. Im looking forward to seeing more from this. Not being fussy but just letting u know for the sake of authenticity of ur piece,a native of scotland is called a "Scot" not a "Scott". It just stands out due to Scott being a common name. Good luck with it.

dont know exactly where this is going, but the presentation is veeeeeery funny, "and to kick some ...!" jajajaja. And I like too the interplay of the characters with non politically correct humour.

Good work!!
  06 June 2010
Thanks Kicker! I am tickled pink that you found the humor very funny. That is our entire reason for doing this. As for where it's all going, we are working the angles and figuring out our options. #1 goal, television (a la adultswim), but alternate distribution is growing. Xbox live marketplace has shown some interest. So we are weighing our options. We are hoping this Animation Magazine contest will give us a far wider range of recognition as well as feedback from executives.
