managing video files

hey, i know this isnt the place but i figured this would someone should know something about this. i have a large amount of video files i have to catalogue and manage, what would be the best way to get around this, is there a software where i can preview them and create a sort of dynamic gallery or something with preview, there are loads of files, from avi. to mov. so flash gallerys wont really solve it. ????
