Flip polys so that cam sees into object, not thru it

I am trying to figure out how to do something I did all the time in Lightwave: flip the polys of an object so that the cam can look into that object from the outside, but the object's walls are visible to the camera.

flipping poly's is what you'd call it, and I guess I can do that in Blender, but when I hit F12 I don't get what I'm describing. I've twiddled with all the relevant buttons.

closest I get is that in 3D view, if I select Textured Draw type, I see it, but again...hitting F12 just gives me an object which can't be looked into.

thanks for any tips on doing this, if indeed it can be done in Blender.

What you want to do is flip normals. In edit mode press "W" and choose "Flip Normals"
