Slow screen update

I have a scene with a very dense fluid container in it, nothing else, no geometry, no shading nothing. The fluid doesnt even have any fluid in it. yet whenever I try to rotate the camera or click on the attribute editor it takes a while to update. Anyone know whats going on under the hood here? Seems as though the DG is trying to update every single voxel even though nothing has changed.
