Z-Brush as a 3d comp

I got to thinking, I ought to be able to use Max (or whatever) to render an image and a depth map and combine them in ZB as pixols. Rotating them out of plane like you can when placing a full in program 3d tool wouldn't work, but one could position in x, y, and z. This would be much slicker than having to do clumsy masking in PShop. It would be similar to what I recall Piranesi doing.

So, aside from being theoretically possible, is it for real?

Say I open Max, render a scene of a house, and it's z-buffer. Then I render a bush and a z-buffer for it. I'd like to open the house in ZB, load up the bush and place copies here and there around the house. One bush could block another; one could hide around the corner. If I put them on layers I could move this one out from behind the house to in front. Can do?
