Help! Making Variable Jet Engine Nozzles

Hullo-

I'm looking for advice on how to create variable jet engine exhaust nozzles. These are the things on the rear of the engines on some fighter jets, such as the F-14 Tomcat, that open and close depending on thrust and other factors.

1) I'm having trouble finding a detailed reference pic of how these work. Does anyone have any?

2) How would you create this in MAX 5? Not so much the modeling, but how would you set it up so you can open and close the nozzles? To make the nozzles, seems like some simple polys attached together. But how to you set it up so they open up and close?

Anybody ever modeled this kind of part?

Thanks,
Sledge
