Capture dab driving me crazy

Hello. ^^

I have a copy of Corel Painter XI onhand, and the capture dab tool is driving me nuts.

I'm following the fractal cloud tutorial posted from the Wiki's tutorial portal, and no matter how many which ways I try it, capture dab remains greyed out.

I created a brush variant, I made a fractal the pattern selector, I captured a small area and feathered it 50 pixels, I copied this new pattern and selected it with the rectangle tool.

It just won't ever let me capture a dab, and it's driving me nuts.

I don't know the Wiki site and therefore can't try the tutorial. Have you tried using the Painter Help Files? Their explanation is easy enough to follow.

Hi,

I haven't see the tutorial either, but it's a known fact that if you hold down the Shift key while making a selection of the image you want to use as the Captured Dab, Painter will think you want to add to an existing selection and the Capture Dab command will be greyed out.

Instead, just make a square-ish selection around the image and the Capture Dab command should be available to use.

Ah, that explains it. I was holding shift to make a perfect square. Thanks for the help, and saving my sanity.

BTW, the tutorial I mention is here:
