cg Roundup - a Brand new cg Podcast

Hello everyone.

I just wanted to make a thread here to let a few of you know about a podcast we started earlier this week.

cgRoundup is a cg oriented podcast that mainly involves the opinions and view expressed by me (Andrew) and other guests (main co-host is Jonathan Williamson). One of our aims is to be totally honest, but many might expect that to entail a lot of shock opinions. It wont, myself and all of my guests either do cg as a hobby or as a profession and we will always remain respectful. We are not looking to upset people but like I said we want to remain honest.

Our main topics will revolve around CG News, Software, Media, Education, Main Issues and Workflow anything really...

We are not expecting millions of listeners or subscribers, we would be happy with just a handful .

In Episode #001: We talk about the Blender Durian Project, 3D Realms Closing and Pixar's Vancouver Studios.

Anyway, i dont want to make this post too long. It no biggie.

If you are interested the site is...

We hope you enjoy your stay.

Yeah, I enjoyed it. Although I couldn't get the rss feed to work :( Is this a weekly thing?

glad you guys like it.

We have so many things we want to discuss and share our opinions on.

As for the frequency. Well i cant promise weekly, we will try to do one as often as possible. Every fortnight seems feasible.

We record the shows on Sunday's. And though i cant make it this week, chances are good that we can record one the week after.

But it's just the beginning, what i would love is a year down the line when someone stumbles across the podcast and has a whole host of episode covering a wide range of topics and news stories possibly interviews, guest speakers.... basically the best show we can put on, without it being... fake.

As for the rss feed. Its just after the CG links.

Here is the actual url

http://www.cgroundup.com/?feed=rss2

Plug that into your google reader or whatever rss reader you use and keep up to date without having to check back all the time.

Good luck with it Andew, I am downloading now.

As for frequency, all I can say is whatever time period you choose, be consistent. Consistency is the key to building an audience. If everyone knows you have an episode every fortnight, they will keep listening. If it goes 1week, 3weeks, 2weeks, 1week, 2weeks people start to drop off.

Just finished listening guys. Nicely done. I've been wanting a podcast like this for ages.

Are you going to be putting this on iTunes?

Matt: Yea i would agree, consistency is a big factor in terms of bring in people. But i guess cg podcasting is somewhat of an unsaturated market that i think we have the freedom to not put too much pressure on us to deliver a show at regular intervals.

Plus im a big fan of the Animation Podcast, which is a very infrequent show, but one i will always be a subscriber of. RSS has kinda eliminated the need to be prompt. Many of the sites and blogs i visit i never check on everyday. But when there is an update i know about it, and i see whats going on.

We would like it to be every 2 weeks, but if things get in the way then they get in the way. (Although we hope they dont.)

Anthony: Cheers mate. As for itunes, im not sure. It depends. If alot of people want it, i will look into it. But when i was looking into podcasting, i came across this method of delivery and frankly thought there was too much work involved. itunes is great when you want to attract a wide audience of nondescript interests ie celebrity, entertainment, games, general computer stuff..

But i would regard this as a specialist topic. And those who will look for a cg podcast will find this one pretty easily.

I would welcome a large audience but im cool with what I have got in the last week. I wont be chasing listeners or asking you to vote for us on podcast alley anytime soon .

Thanks for the great response to the show. I know alot of people like the idea of a cg podcast. I just hope that other who stumble upon us like our take on things.

Yep....enjoyed it, you guys started off a little nervous but that soon sorted itself out.

Is there a chance of it getting on Itunes, then i can simply subscribe?

Good stuff

As for nervous, yeah it was weird. We had recorded alot of shows before the official first one but for some reason, just before the music started to fade out i thought... well this is it. (Which is kinda silly since it's not live or anything).

As for itunes, for the moment, i want to keep it just for RSS.

I looked into itunes when i thought of doing this but, there was a lot involved and i just wanted to get it out there.

But programs like Juice (formerly iPodder ) do the same job as itunes and its much lighter.

Also by the way the second episode it out. It was a nightmare to cut because last week both Jonathan and i were really busy and well... unprepared. But i think I salvaged alot of good stuff for the show.

Hope you enjoy it.

i like the idea of a cg podcast, and you guys do a good job, but it's difficult to sit back and listen when its stopping and starting between topics, perhaps a fully flowing podcast would be more aesthetic and pleasing, just my 2 cents

good work guys!!
