do you speak or understand chinese?
if you do, then you could try some school such as IDMT(institute of digital media technology), which you can find some information here.

honestly i have to say that in china you can hardly find a school that teaches cg in english.

and in china, if you go to a university or college, then you'll find the school thinks that the degree thing and the theory related things are more important than your actual skills for production. so if you want to learn something really really useful then go find some online schools, they teach you the most important skills for production.

you have to know, holding a degree is not that needed compare to having a outstanding showreel.

Hi doctor3dmax,

Well, I too wish to learn a degree in Animation & VFX from US/Canada, but again, the fees are very high! Moreover, there is very little (next to nil) financial aid available for international students!

I'd recommend you, if possible, to more a bit further ahead of China, that is, to India! In India, there are lots of animation institutes (most of them offers diploma & only few offer degrees)! Many renowned US animation production companies like The Dreamworks & Rhythm & Hues have their branches in India! And the course fees are quite cheaper as compared to the US!

Also, English is the main language of instruction in the classes!

Although, I can assure you that, the best animation institutes are still in the US & Canada!

Hi doctor3dmax,

VFS has an overseas international admissions office in Mumbai.

Here are few colleges/institutes in India, which are offering courses in 3D animation:-

1. Image College of Art, Animation and Technology (ICAT)

2. Whistling Woods International

3. Maya Academy Of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC)

4. Arena Multimedia

Although, these days, animation institutes in India are also charging quite high fees as compared to few years back!

hi doctor3dmax,

i think it will be very hard if you dont read or speak chinese and wanting to find a CG school here,

i am an expat here in shanghai working for an archi viz company, and i've been looking at one or two cg schools in my area but all of them are taught in chinese while my language skill is not to the level i can cope with.

although i think cg schools arent that expensive here, i saw a 8 week course of Compositing (maya-AE) for around $600, and 24 week course is around $1000

cg in china is growing really really rapidly, i saw courses ranging from technical like intro to 3d softwares, character animation, game (low poly), archi viz (architectural is a huge industry here) etc

good luck in finding your school.

ps. if you can afford it, go to VFS, i know 2 personal friends of mine went there and their skills improved tenfold

hi doctor3dmax,

i work at a CG school in Beijing. http://www.xing-xing.com/en_news_show.asp?id=32

we have 2 classes taught in English, hoping to start in June. One is animation, the other is lighting.

There's an animation master class starting in June taught by one of my former co-workers at Rhythm & Hues, Los Angeles. He's an American Animation Director as well as a teacher. The class will be taught in English and the computers have English language software. Perhaps it will meet your needs. There's no modeling classes taught in English, but there are modeling classes in Chinese.

There is also a lighting master class which I teach in English

you can probably email him directly with questions http://www.baian3d.com

Why would you like to study CG in China?

Do you plan to learn here because you would also like to work here later?
The CG market is still booming here, but the competition is getting tougher and if you donít speak Chinese well and also donít bring years of experience (from abroad) with you it will be really hard, or almost impossible, to find something afterward.
