DWIV - 2D - FrozenSceptre - "Sammy"

Latest Update:
I haven't had much time to work on this because of constant work but I have been able to squeeze some time here and there and hopefully I can finish before the deadline. Here is where I am at currently. Modeling sheet 95%, Concept Sheet 95%, Final illustration 90%.

Hello everyone! This will be my second Dominance War I'll be entering. I hope to finish this time .

I Decided to go with a norm warlord this year. I was thinking of doing sort of a human and dog hybrid kind of creature. I did a few sketches of different levels of human and beast until I got what I wanted. then I did a few quick drawings of expressions for my character.

Next I'm going to work on her body shape. Good luck to everyone!

Samarina

Update:
I chose the the final body structure I wanted and started working on her outfit. I'm still not satisfied with these. I'm going to keep trying out some other stuff and post it when I'm done.

I think you're going too cute with this one. It's an interesting idea, and I understand that you're not going for 'generic were-wolf', but this is DOMINANCE WAR after all.

Imagine a client had asked you for this design - a powerful warrior that will help win a war - and see if you think it does the job...

Mix in a bit of reference, and push the design a bit more towards 'warlord' (which is what your post says you've chosen).

Enjoy! This comp is all about pushing outside your comfort zone, after all.

Ajenyon: Thanks for the reply, Ya I see what you mean, I'll try some more things out and try to push it more and lose some of the cuteness.

Wow dude, putting in a lot of work already. I agree with Ajenyon as well. It'll be exciting to see what you come up with in order to make her a more threatening foe for the war.

Cheers!

Finally an update

Well it has been along time since I have posted. I've been busy with work and other stuff so I haven't been able to get much of this done. But now I finally have time for an update so here are a few things I have done since the last update.

Cool reminds me of a samurai dog. The armor is looking nice, but yea, I feel like he has to be a little more vicious. Good start..keep the concepts coming.

Nice front pose here at the end, mate. Those crystals are a nice touch. Keep going!

Another small update to let you know I'm still here. I don't have much time left to work on this with work. So I will try to get it done before I have to get back to work next week.

here is an older sketch of the meteor hammer concepts that I did.

Hmm, tough call. I like 1 and bottom center the most, I think.

Well I've been working on it for most of the day. I will continue with it once I've had some sleep.

Putting in good work, man. I think you did a really good job with the face. It's tough to draw expressions from this angle, but it comes across well here.
I like the composition and color selections so far. Can't wait to see all of the characters get painted in with full values like your main character.
One thing I would look at as you go forward is convex/concave lines and overlaps. The overlap stating the flying demon's ribcage is suggesting that we're viewing him from above, not below. Either having the oblique overlap the ribs or just not using an overlap at all would be worth checking out. Same thing with the abs, as the curves are more like "u"s instead of "n"s, as if we're viewing from above. You can see what I mean here.

Let's bust thing out!
