The image was inspired by musical genius of "Fields of the Nephilim". Modelled, posed, lit and textured in 3ds Max. Rendered with MentalRay. Further detailing and colour tweaking in Photoshop.

Great image! Really like the metal on the arm, leg and hand. Good camera shot and composition.

My only comments would be to make the fabric more used and dirty, the edges look too straight and clean, maybe get some some rips and tears in there. The skin texture looks a little noisey and unnatural too. Also the blood around the arm looks a little dull. Maybe make it a little more red and wet and have some of the blood rubbing off onto the top of the arm.

Their just my suggestions to improve it, it looks great already though!

Hi Jason,

I am really glad you like my image!

Thank you for such extensive critique! This is exactly what I've been looking for!

I totally agree about adding the "wear and tear" to his clothes, it is something I've planned on doing originally, but somehow never done it.

I also share your opinion about the skin. The noise was intentional, but I've overdone it. Definitely something to look at in my next work.

As for the blood on his shoulder area- it was meant to be a healing scar tissue, hence the dryness and the absence of blood on his metallic arm. I do love your idea of having a fresh open wound with blood smeared on the robotic arm though. It would definitely add more drama to the whole scene!

Thank you again for all the critique, I will try to incorporate all your advice in my future works!

--------
ps hey thanks for voting everyone! I am 1 star above my previous work! So I must have improved! With my next work I am aiming for at least 4 stars! wish me luck haha!

wow youve been busy dude
Really nice work!

Id agree with the shirt looks too new for him, would be nice to see the fabric more used and dirty.
Also the guns feel too new and polished, your image comes across with a rustic look and feel. Also those glasses look quite steampunk (which are an awesome addition by the way ). So I guess it might be nice to follow through that with the rest of the image. Have the guns and arm/leg slightly rusty? Maybe some more dried blood? Help them sit in with the general feel of the image? Although not too much, I like the way the arm pulls forward from the image and grabs my attention. It helps lead my eye round your artwork

But again these are just suggestions, it looks pretty awesome already!

Hey Rikki!

Thank you for a great comment! I am glad you like the image!

I know very little about steampunk unfortunately. The glasses were just a lucky coincidence, because Fields of the Nepthilim's singer often wears similar type of wielding goggles. Thanks for bringing it up, I will definitely look more into that style, it looks exactly like my cup of tea!

The rust idea sounds really sweet too. I agree that the arm and the leg look too new and shiny. (haha that's been my problem since uni, I love shiny things!)

I think I will take a little break from cowboys for now, but seeing so much amazing critique from you and Jason, I might do a second, improved version of this guy somewhere in foreseeable future, taking all your comments into account! Thank you, your comments push me to do better things!
