rope but like no others

ok i am no in charge of rigging issues for upcoming 3d series
the charcters are quite simple (consider them as abending cylinder just for now) these will hinge to a rpoe via a hock not only this it will also slide back and forth over this rope
the idea here that the customer dont need to do simulation via reactor or cloth he just need something interactive for animators , i wiped up the forums here but didnt find proper solution
here r demonstration pics for what i want to achieve

rig the characters so that they will travel back and forth/up/down etc...
then build a curve that uses the position of the character to build the rope...
I don't know what app you're using so I can't be more specific...

arctor thank you but still nees something different i.e the character will be sometimes on floor then jump up to rope to hing with then go back and forth on it then back to floor ...etc
i have already rigged the character but the problem is the relation between the rope and character how to lessen the headach for animators and make life much easier?
