A Juggler in a Smithy, Giff Ransom (2D)

Title: A Juggler in a Smithy
Name: Giff Ransom
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop

I'm a software engineer by trade, but have always enjoyed art. This is the first of a series of illustrations I am doing for a children's book with my sister. I really can use all the feedback you can give. I'm new to digital painting (this is only my fifth attempt since I got my tablet for Christmas), and am trying to get a nice style down. I can certainly use all the criticism you have to offer.

This illustration is of the hero of the story, who (before his sudden entry into heroic adventures) doesn't quite fit in with the local villagers. It illustrates these lines of the story:

The menfolk would comment: he needed a trade
And donned him a smithy, and saw what he made!
His balls, and battons, and brass bells he could ring,
He'd toss 'til the shop of the smithy would sing.
