i'd make the blade even thinner, and change the color. theres too much white in it. and id even out those spike things on the handle. its pretty good tho.

not too shabby - unless you are a star wars geek, looks just fine....only hint for a self proclaimed 'newbie' is, get off of sci fi - all sci fi - unless it is character creation.......I think everyone has seen their fair share of light sabers and space ships since the 80's - thats only a hint if you are trying to put together a portfolio for work - if you are doing it because you just want to and you have a thing for star wars or whatever- have at it!!

oh - and btw.....the light beam is about a 40% smaller light beam

no that I'm any cameraman or whatever, but for this sort of object, I think the best render would be one from behind the hilt, with the hilt in close-up and the light blade in the background, as it's in itself quite featureless and uniform. Good work though.

great work so far. It's ok to make star wars.If you're a newbie you should start modelling stuff you think is easy and capable of doing.Characters are usually the last step.Model stuff first then only then characters. This Light saber is great.

But of course it's not exactly like the movie blade but cool

the blade part ie the inside, should me much thinner still, looking at the pic of annikins it should be the size of the core thing at the end. looks ok (for what i can see) otherwise.

Well i'm a star wars guru making star wars fanfilm because i love star wars so much that i want to... To see the movie i'm making the click the thing for it in my signature! But anyways... I love lightsabers, they are the reason for which I live and i'd like to help you out in any way I can with this. Firstly, I can help you with your glow for the blade. About 5 months ago, In Photoshop 6, I made some custom actions of my very own so I could rotoscope the glow into my movies.. I still have it and I would like to show you them and see what you think. (They are very accurate in my opinion...) I have pictures I used them in and I also included one of your pictures to show you some of the colors I have:

I just used the line tool for now, so it's not always so square like that. The actions utilize paths to work... As for the model of the handle itself, it looks pretty good...
