Forest modeling

I'm going to model something like this, which is the best way to reproduce inside XSI, that kind of foliage, should I model leaf by leaf?

there's a standalone app that creates vines and leaves on imported geometry. Cannot recall the name atm though. You could also look into particles and instanced leaves. Create a little group with several shapes and assign to your particles.
Might work well enough depending on the level of detail and closeup.
