Broken Advertisement

I experienced the inability to click and open an advertisement.

It was displayed in the FXWars forum, and was titled "Rocketbox Libraries" located down the right side of the page. There were two advertisements on that side of the page. The top ad was for Rocketbox, and would not open when clicked, but the advertisement below would open when clicked.

The mouse cursor showed the finger cursor for links when hovering over the ad, but clicking the mouse button resulted in nothing happening.

I am using Windows XP, Firefox 3.0.3

I have attached a JPG of the webspage, and also the HTML saved from the browser.

I continue to experience the problem. This time both ads on the right side are not clickable.

The error console for Firefox is reporting this error.

Warning: Expected ':' but found 'undefined'. Declaration dropped.

I don't know if that helps or not. Sometimes Firefox constantly complains about things unrelated.

Interesting. If I click the link in the post above. I sometimes get shown an ad that I can not click, and other times ads that I can click.

Ahhh.. it is all the ads that are done in Flash are unclickable for me. Where as the simple image ads are clickable.

But the Flash ads are playing normally. I can see the animations.

When I go to this URL

http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/

It tells me I have Flash version 9,0,115,0 installed. I will upgrade to 9.0.124.0 and see if that resolves the problem.

Bingo! That was the problem. The ads are now working.

Boy that is really stupid.

I wonder how many of your visitors are using the older version. I would assume that version 9,0,115,0 isn't that old. Maybe the problem exists for people with even older versions.

The problem might be that the ads were published to support only the newer version, and are not backward compatible.
