Exclamation DMIII - Team Poster Thread

1] goto [while logged] http://www.gameartisans.org/contest...ers/poster2.php

2] make sure you see the CGSociety in the upper left corner

3] make sure to check 3D or 2D

4] upload your character for the Team Poster [go big, 3000x3000 and i would give it a transparent background]

5] if the upload fails, email the image directly to --> fredh@dominancewar.com

Quote:
-the dimensions should be as big as possible. So 3000 x 3000 or larger if possible?

-For the camera angle, you can have the camera looking down a bit on your character. Similar to this angle here: http://www.gameartisans.org/contests...inningPose.jpg

-I would avoid going with a crazy pose. Try to keep your arms nice and tucked in, and if you would like to pose your character with something cool-looking, try to also keep this nice and narrow. The less space you take, the better (need to squeeze in as many entries as possible)

Many of us on the 2D side did our winning shots in crazy poses, with dramatic lighting and camera angles... in short, everything it sounds like this poster is not supposed to be! It almost sounds like we are supposed to do a whole new illustration of our characters for this poster (which is a little more difficult for us concept-artisty folks than the 3D-ers who can more easily repose and rerender.) Is that what they're asking for? Does doing a whole new illo have a time-deadline, or is it required at all? I'd love to do it but honestly don't have time to do a full new painting of Sesslyth and Ezekiel (or at least if I'm going to get anywhere with my CGChallenge entry.) So what's the deal with manditoriness of this event, or is it all just extracurricular / extra-credit?

Walrus, I agree with you - it's just not practical to do a new 2D painting to the quality of my main submission, so I guess I'm out too (and I'm not too keen on having to pay for 'complimentary' copies too!). I also don't want someone else fiddling with the lighting and painting on my own work to make it fit in! They would have been better giving each entry it's own small frame or something, and I hope they think this out better next year.

This is the first year Concept Art has been a part of the competition, so I'm guessing that in years past, this has been easier to manage because everyone had 3D models that they could just re-pose. Dunno where that leaves us, though!

cool idea... but I agree.
I'm sure most of the poses on the 2D side are not able to be presented for this... and to do a whole other drawing for it... I'm sure most of us have other projects to work on.

It does sound neat though... just unfortunate. If I had more time I would submit. but then again...if I had more time I would have fixed a lot of things with my entry... lolz.

I'll submit mine, but I need a couple of questions answered before getting started.

1. What should be included in the image? Magical effects? Just the character or also the pedestal?
2. What image format is preferred?

All your questions, have answered right there pal
You should submit you creature only with artefact with solid or transparent background, and file formats you can look there too.

2D people, just submit your final piece. there is no way anyone can re-do their 2D art. so please 2D people, just submit what you have... maybe they will format the poster a little different then the 3D guys... who knows?

if i was submitting an image, i would do a 3000x3000 .png with transparencies. if you do an image with a solid color background, make sure the background image is a color not found on your character.

Hmmm. I was searching for the Tuesday announcement and stumbled upon this. I wasn't aware of a poster. I'll try to submit if I still can.
