To be continued... Next season, Gabriel Vera (2D)

Title: To be continued... Next season
Name: Gabriel Vera
Country: Mexico
Software: Painter

This pic was made for "It's art" mag's winter challenge. I didn't want to do snow, so I went for the beautiful Iced branches I saw in some pictures a while ago. I've never seen such a thing live (not even snow for that matter), and they're so crystal clear and neat I came up with an excuse to paint them (the little rats) and went for a good time. It ended up first place.
Done in Painter, It took six nights to complete.
As always, all comments are welcome, I'm still working a bit on the colors :).
Hope you like it.

Are you a Redwall fan at all? This would definitely fit in that world.

Talking

Hi everyone, Thanks a lot! so glad you liked the pic, it was made just to be fun, so I like to hear opinions about it a lot, and yes, SEIF: their angry faces were the funniest part of it, at first I was thinking of making them all cute, with big pupil eyes and such, but over time I prefered for them to be silly, and to upscale the ridiculous situation I went for the fierce look.

Ron: I didn't know much about the Redwall Stories. I looked it up and you're right, it would fit well there, even when this ones are not so classy (judging by the covers I saw)
I had in mind 'Wind in the willows' too.

Tomorrow I'll post some close ups and middle stages.

Thank you very much indeed.

Hi! here are some steps...

Some close-up's, Yay!

This is my infamous red version of the pic. I like it a LOT, but everybody said it looked like the ice was melting already and 'not so chilly'. Well. I stil want to show it to you. Let me know what you think

Thumbs up 5 stars

Hi Gabriel,

Hey! Those close ups look like another illustration my friend! Total eye candy! Great details, I like the red version as well adds more value to the cold and chilly colors, but like they said; it might take off the main idea for winter…and the whole melting point I wouldn’t care I mean it has to melt one day of this…and the winter its there already for the clearly icy state they are in! Poor guys! I am so amazed every time of your work, for the great execution of history, art, and color you developed to show so well done! Great idea and concept Gabriel Congratulation I know you win already so HURRAY!

Thumbs up Awesome

Hey Gabriel, I love this image. You captured in an incredible way the "freeze moment" over the warrior rats. I can feel the dynamic action, and want to stay to see when ice meltdown The atmosphere and composition are really cool !! and the render for the ice is awesome. The rats are simply an appealing characters.

I´m feel a bit guilt because I´m one of the people that bother you with a more cold look for the background , and now see the redish image in an other perspective, but i like the more colder background
Thanks fore share the process in this image my friend and congratulations for your first place on the "Its Art" Challenge. That deserve a big tequila bottle, of course. Cheers!!

Artists are busy

What's up my friend? Looks like you've been busy! I love this image, great colors and the story is much fun Seems like the latin artists are into icy concepts these days Anyway, I just couldn'd pass by without dropping a few words to my good old pal. Hope we'll be seeing some more mate, I myself am very busy these days illustrating 'Barbie' books, can't wait to go back to my personal stuff! You know, painting so much for Barbie makes you want to slap Ken. hehehehehhehe

take care Gabriel, keep in touch!
