Edit : Spot light fog and Area shadow

Maya 5.0, rendering with Mray.

Is it possible to combine SpotLight Fog and Area shadows? I create a Spot light, turn on RT, Overide sampling in cone settings, and fog appears. Problem is the shadows are basic RT shadows...very sharp...i want realistic AreaShadows. If i turn on AreaShadows...i get black fog, in other words...no fog at all.

Sugestions?

Thx

Edit : oops...i just realized i write AreaLight instead if area shadow parametar under Spotlight Mray parametars.
