7800 GTX vs HD3870@FireStream 9170

vsHi there,

I'm thinking of selling my 7800GTX and buying a HD2600XT to softmod it to a FireGL V5600 . Do you guys think i will see a big difference regarding 3ds max viewport?

How about power draw?

Thanks!

FireGL softmod will help max but there are some max files/drivers you need to find aswell. Don't use max so dont know much more than that but I know it will be an improvement.

I'm a Maya user, but I think Max uses DirectX and therefore softmoding isn't necessary.

max can use both opengl and directx to drive its viewports

There's still a bug on ATI's FireGL drivers when using Maya and that means, the softmodded Radeon will have the same problem. Yet, the performance is pretty awesome specially with Maya and leaves any Quadro in the dust. Don't know about Max performace though. I have a Quadro 1700 at work and I trully believe they are not worth it. If I were you I'll wait for the upcoming ATI R700 series and see how they perform against the GeForce GTX 280 and 260.
