Maya 5.0 + Mental Ray + Subds

I was really excited when I learned that Mental Ray can now render Subdivision surfaces, but I was disconcerted to discover that it cannot render any mesh with anything but quads. For example, I created a subd cylinder primitive and mental ray could not render it. Doesn't this still make subd's essentially useless in mental ray? What are your thoughts on this? For me, it is almost impossible to make a perfect mesh without any triangles.

You can render any subd shape in MR for Maya.

You have to collapse hierarchy.

I did simple test with "your" cylinder and...

IT WORKS!

from help files -

"To prepare subdivision surfaces not directly supported (for example, where the base mesh does not contain only quads), you must bake the first level of subdivision surfaces to get quads everywhere.

To get quads everywhere in a rejected subdivision surface
Select Subdiv Surfaces > Collapse Hierarchy > .
Set Number of levels to 1.
Click Apply."

Thanks, I was hoping there was some solution like that.
