gamma lumina chroma calibration?

i'm requested to do a small clip thats is going to be broadcasted in PAL 16:9 anamorphic, now the calibration for LUT I've read up some on, but that seems to apply for above 8-bit color downgraded to monitors typical 8-bit. Is there any calibration that can be done so one can set the gray balance(gamma, lumina, chroma??) right for PAL? My own experience in this field is very limited(I've done some testing way back with DVD's and generally I found that grayscale(gamma) should be turned down by circa 10 percent, but that was with one set of monitor that I had then, now I want to be more "scientific")

any help appreciated,
