HD System Reccomendations

Hey guys,

Just looking for some advice on a HD workstation. We have a decklink extreme capture machine but this hasn't been the most rosey experiance. First of all our capture source is actually off another PC (gameplay capture) and question the quality from there. It is off the graphics card svideo output.

From here we run it into a dualcore machine via the decklink into premiere. currently 2GB ram and 4 250 gb drives with 3 striped together(which keep failing - even with new drives?!). In out last crunch the system basically failed us.

My first question is quality from source PC. I have a feeling incorrect capture settings where being used (4:4:2 not 4:4:4) but also question what I could possibley expect from the output in the first. What are my options?

Second question is speed of the second machine. Intial thoughts was 4 gigs of the fastest bus ram possible, a dual quad core machine, a proper external raid array and obviously correct quality settings for receiving the possible signal.

I have been told we have bugeted for a new system entirely but i think we can just upsepc the elements we have and make a decent system with what we already have.

Im really interested in hearing more about my options here as I really have little capturing HD. I just know we need something a bit better.
