Concept Sketch or 3D pre-visualization: How to become extinct



This is my first sketch, wich presents my overall idéa. Dragons working on their ultimate weapon to feed on diplodocuses (large dinsosaurs). Ofcourse, everyone knows, dragons should'nt meddle with explosives.

Modeling: LowPolyDragon



This is my basic low poly dragon. I'll use this one as a start for alle three dragons. Exporting from Maya to z-brush, and then giving them personality and diversity.
The lowPoly is basicly made out of quads, originally made from a box.

Modeling: Dragon 1



I finally got some time to continue my dragons. Here is the first dragon, the one whoms painting on the bomb. This is z-brush render without eyes, and props. I'll do a few more adjustments, then I'll start on the other two, using the same low poly model posted before.

Modeling: Spiky Dragon



This is the second dragon, he's all about spikes and muscles. He's also adding spikes to the bomb from his own body.

This is the third and final dragon. I'll give his scin a noisy specular map. The same specular you find in snow.
All three models are exported as low poly to maya, I'll show the real maya renders soon.
But first I'll model the ground! :) Lots to do!

Modeling: Ground



This is the ground. I'll also add eaven more rocks, and a few plants. The setting is early morning, so there'll be a bright light coming in low. The ground was modeled in z-brush, with 2million polygons, then I imported the mesh to maya, with 600 000 polygons and a 32bit bumpmap, to avoid stear steps. The hi res poly, gives me a faster render than the displacement, and nearby the same result.
I'll submit the plant scetches later.Currently I'm rigging the dragons.

Concept Sketch or 3D pre-visualization: Storyboard



This is my storyboard, I'm currently animating. Title of the animation will be "how to become instinct (in20sek)".
At the wery end, we'll understand the bomb is about to explode, then I'll go to black and end creds, and I'll blow up my end creds. Hopefully it'll give a comical punch to it.

Shading (Textured and lit): Background



This is my background. It's made out of five images. After merging the images together, I used a color ramp with softlight to create the illution of sunrice to darker sky. The teksture has no seams and repeat at the edges.

Shading (Textured and lit): Bacground Lit



Here is my entire scene put together and lit (except the dragons).
The sceene is lit by the surounding bacground and a spotlight as sun. Then there's a faint blue directional light pointing from left to right. The shadow areas on the ground in front and on the mountain shelf is from the dragons. I'll post another with them included tomorrow. There is a simple white lambert assigned to all objects, no bump.

This is my entire scene, with models. A simple white lambert is applied to all models, except the dragons, who has a white simple-fast misss, and a displacment.

Shading (Textured and lit): basic image put together



This is my render without any effects. I'll add some hace and fog, a few light rays from the sun, and also depth. Then I'll color correct the image. Without the depth focus, the image appears a bit messy. Hopefully that'll change.
