it can't make any difference!!!!

Hi,

How can surface baking the radiosity help with render times in animations, when it takes 5 hours to bake just one texture????!!!! :annoyed:
at this rate i could have rendered 5 animations with radiosity by the time it's finished, and thats no exaggeration!!!:insane:

is it meant to be taking this long???????

Thanks,

Will

Could take that long yes.

If you don't have to render it again then yes it makes a lot of difference. Imagine 3000 frames rendering at similar speed

It really depends on what you plan on doing.

I'm not familiar with baking yet but the point is -I think- that you have to bake the radiosity map once and then use it for all your frames without having to bake them again

Learn to set up your light rigs that simulate radiosity.
Eki has some plugs at his site just for your situation.
Either that or splurge on Shadow Designer which is really fast.

You can also follow SplineGod's nice trick of using the baked texture as a diffusion map. That one rocks!

wgreenlee is spot on on Eki. His entire set is killer and a virtual gieveaway considering how much time you save.

Gimme!

I generally use a Dome/Globe light rig to simulate GI or ambient fills lights.
